Couple of suggestions for you.... my first would be to use Sony Ericsson Update Service downloadable from the following link. Ignore the Aino bit, you get to select your model when you run the programme.

Aino™ - Update Service - Downloads - Mobile phones - Support - Sony Ericsson

The other suggestions for PC companion is to try different USB sockets on your pc/laptop as sometimes this kick starts the download of the appropriate drivers or even try it on a totally different pc/laptop. Both of these have worked for me in the past altho now I generally use the Update Service. There isn't much else on the PC Companion that I need.

Let me know how you get on.

I wanted to check for software updates today so I tried to connect my phone to PC Companion. When I opened the programme, it prompted an (urgent) update, so I let it install & tried to open it again. So far so good... until I tried to get PC Companion to connect to my phone. It couldn't find it at all, I have tried a dozen times & every single attempt results in an error message: "there's a problem with the connection, cannot detect phone". (I always use an USB connection btw)

Well.. that's not good now is it? Now how am I to update my phone's software? I mean, wi-fi isn't all that reliable, nor is bluetooth, and I don't want to mess up my Arc by having the connection timeout in the middle of an important update... I have already un- and re-installed PC Companion (it had to go through the aforementioned extra update AGAIN) but to no avail.

So, what to do now? Can you guys please fix PC Companion asap? I want to be able to get Android 2.3.4 when it's available, and I'd like my phone to be hooked up to my laptop when that happens - better safe than sorry!

Okay thanks for the link & advice - I will try both. (but as for the USB sockets, I already tried another one and I only have three in total, so I hope that won't be the culprit) I'll let you know how it goes!

Didn't even have to install the Updater (but keeping it in my downloads folder just in case!) - I shouldn't have clicked "connect" - all I had to do was just plug in the phone and let it connect on its own. Sounds silly but that's it - the software update to 2.3.4 has been successful, I'm currently waiting for my Arc to finish booting. *crosses fingers, is excited about all those new features
