Xperia play update help!

My Xperia Play has just told me there is a new system update available, 4.0.2.A.0.42. The problem i have is i have an Apple Mac which Sony Ericsson don't support for some reason! Can i update it over the air, the phone says i can, but i can't figure out how to do it. The last update i had it did automatically for me when i was in a Wifi hotspot!

go to settings > about phone > software update

Doesn't work, already tried that. The phone contradicts itself, it says you can download the update over the air, but then it says you need a computer with pc companion to do the update! WTF

I'm having the same problem, cannot update over the air.

Says you can, but then says pc companion required :-s

Its annoying as i have the icon showing update available, however i cannot update OTA.

Can a mod please reply asap?

Yes, you cannot hate Sony Ericsson enough for this one! They again showed a complete disregard for their customers. The responsible person should have their teeth kicked inwith iron boots, maybe they will understand then that not every cutomer is the same and uses Windows XP. Millions of MAC & Linux user are shat on, but dont worry - unless things change it will be our last Sony Ericsson phone. Even if they would need the PC to update, why not use a platform independent solution like Java to run updates? Anyone would be able to use it, but no: anyone doesnt count, Windows counts. Havimg a Linux based phone, that i now wont be able to update hurts. i wish i could return it!

well i know they should have the pc companion up and running in mac.. but they dint brought it..

i'll suggest you all to update from a friend's windows computer.. or if your service centre is nearby , go there and they will update it for you

Not only Mac OSX, but also Linux. It's a Linux Kernel in the phone. Do things cross platform!

So I installed a Virtual Machine with Windoze XP and installed the PC Companion as recommended by SE. Sadly that piece of software is utter cr*p! Doesn't recognise the phone, I have to unplug it and plug it again. Then it seems to recognise it and sometimes even says that my Xperia Play is connected, but it looses the phone within seconds again. WTF?

my Xperia play let me connected by USB port in (MSC) mode for PC companion, but not recognized by (MTP) mode and mark me error and the ubdate attempt can not be performed.

Previous i had the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber shot and let

installed on my computer the old " software updated service " is where you turn off the phone, connect the USB cable and let the Back Key pressure , so I could upgrade my phone to Android 2.3.4 Update 4.0.2.A.0.42

I hope the information will serve
