Xperia Active is unfortunately not good phone for travellers or hikers because of weak battery.

Is there any other more powerful battery on market, that fits for Xperia Active?

Standard battery is 1200 mAh, but for 3-4 day hiking trips in low signal areas and for nonstop use of GPS I need much better battery than standard one.

Are there some solutions? Even if I turn off all unnecessary applications, battery still works only for 1,5 days. 2-3 same type backup batteries are not a solution.

I am suprised you can get 1.5 days contunuase GPS use. 3-4 days none stop is unrealistic. Most good gps reciver chips are somthing like 30ma at 3V minimum so if that was the only thing using power your looking at 40 hours tops. If you want 3-4 days none stop gps you will need some an external power source, I am sure somthing with the apropriate usb socket is avalible but it will be heavy and you will loose the waterproofness when you have it pluged in.

In areas with patchy signal it makes a big difference if you put the phone in airplane mode so it will stop trying to find a signal all the time. If you still want to be contactable you will have to switch it on intermitently the check. There may well be an app to automate this sort of stuff e.g. Just come one 5 minutes in the hour.

Yap, indeed, for back packers like me as well, the battery will not last long (1.5 days is lucky enough). The only solution I think I can share is to buy an external battery backup (e.g. powerbank, powerport, etc. [any usb capable chargers for iphone, ipods will also work]) so we can charge our phones anytime of the day when the battery is low.

I agree that your best bet here would be to by an extra battery, if there is no way of charging it. I am pretty sure that there is not a more powerful official battery. An external power source would do the job, but I doubt you'd want to carry the extra weight.

Ifor above mentioned using the phone is airplane mode when you can. This makes a huge difference if you're able to do that.

Up until i read this discussion I was convinced that I had a broken battery or a charge/discharge bug...

Guys, this is NOT common for a smartphone. I had the E75 (may it rest in peace, the displays gone) and a battery charge lasted for most of the week. I used GPS once or twice a week for navigation, checked my e-mail, phonecalls, sms, ... at least 3 days of use! (o.k. I used SMS instead of whatsapp and it only has a 2.7" display not 3")

My new Xperia Active lasts for around 20 hours, GPS, Bluetooth, Wlan, switched off, mobil data activ when needed... i am moving in the same urban areas with good signal. What's wrong with this phone it's a brand new original battery! I got myself a 1350 mAh battery from ebay, still only minutes more charge.

Do I realy have to carry half a kilo of batteries (10x 50g) for a 14 days outdoor trip??? You can't be serious!

this is a common problem for devices running android. unlike your nokia E75, which runs on symbian OS, which is not as "power hungry" as android os, yes the active has this down side.

can you check your battery use in the settings, try to see if there are something suspicious activity.

Xperia Active has 1200mah battery, are you sure 1350 mAh is working properly? or supported by sony?

I'd like to see a smartphone that would last 14 days with moderate use.

Does not look too suspicious, not like some app is eating all the watts?

So it's not a smartphone issue, it's an android issue

Guess I will buy a solar charger (any of those good? they range from 20 to 120 euros!) for extended tours.

The 1350 battery was a "german quality product" for around 20 euros. Holds up at least as good as the original, would have to use it some more days to see if it makes a difference on average. It's +10% charge which sounds reasonable, considering that sony would not want to put a slightly more powerful battery for a lot more money inside the package. Those batteries promising double load are certainly a fake and i would not use them...

I see, but as you know those are just estimates, your display is kinda high, I got mine at 35 % on full brightness.

I have'nt use those solar thingies, but I guess they would be great to use.

as long as those battery don't damage the phone (if it did, it won't be covered by warranty,)

even my friend's icrap doesn't last as much as my xperia active. and it can't even swim. pity.

I think the screen appears to be so much, because most other things (apps, connections) are kept low profile. It's a percantage, could likely be about the same total energy? I switched off all vibration feedback, use a dim background, dim backlight settings, etc.

I think i recall an iCrap protective cover that makes it 10 meters waterproof, for just about the price for a complete xperia active

i kinda agree with ya bro we are on the same page on settings and at most android devices are power hungry .. i even saw a person online selling high spec batteries from japanfor our phones here in the philippines but im kinda doubting the quality of them imo ( my phone averages around a day and 15 hours at most, standby mode most of the time , 3g network mode,a bit of gaming (hvga games0 a lot of reading and a fair share of music using a 3rd party app:smileycool:.imo a spare battery is a must if you are on the trail most of the time and it would be kinda interesting to see how a solar charger would fare
