hi. im facing a problem with my xperia Neo. recently im getting the message "phone storage is getting low". when i checked the phone storage in settings it showed a mere 4 MB left. i really dont understand how the phone storage dropped to such a low level. my SD card is working fine n has lots of space left. i had upgraded to gingerbread 2.3.4 last month...but i really cant understand how phone memory dropped to 4 MB. now im not able to install many apps from the android market. the apps download fine but cant install since it says "not enough space". having no choice i had to delete some apps from my phone like Go launcher, gmail updates, messenger and some live wallpapers. as a result i managed to get the phone memory to 23 MB. but the problem still persists. the phone displays the same message that phone memory is low n i cant install some apps. can someone please help me to solve this problem?

i have another small problem. i had installed real player from android market. it worked fine. but recently i moved it from phone to SD card in the settings menu. since then the player is working gud but im not able to get its widget on the homescreen. the widget has disappeared n is not on the widget list. how can i restore it? i tried to uninstall n re-install but that didnt solve it.

@slimshaddy- wen i go to manage applications i have 4 tabs namely- downloaded, all, SD card and running. under downloaded the memory used is 343 MB n free is 37 MB. under running used is 153 mb n free 147 mb. now this is wat i dont understand...how did it go down from 380 MB to 37 MB? cud it be due to the android gingerbread 2.3.4 update?

n yes i used the app u suggested...app2sd. but it didnt fare too well. wenever i click "clear cache" it says "no cache size used by apps". i still use my old way of going to manage apps n then clicking "clear data" for each app...but i go only as high as about 50 mb with that. this prob is getting frustrating...suggest something!!

@slimshaddy and uliwooly- guys thanks for ur interest in solving my prob. first lemme mention some basics...i started facing this problem only after i upgraded to 2.3.4. my phone is not network branded in any way. but ever since i upgraded to 2.3.4 i have been getting this O2 operator logo screen when i turn on/off my phone,, though i dont use O2 service!!

yes the phone shows that 343 mb used. thats why i always have the msg "phone storage getting low" in my notification bar.

in app2sd thr r 3 tabs...movable, SD card and phone. in movable thr is just 1 app task manager. SD card has 9 apps n phone has 11. the "clear cache" option u suggested just frees up a few KB's only n most of the times nothing.

i have 4 apps pages in my menu. i may sound old,, but im listing all apps on my phone menu page by page...for u to understand the prob in a better way..

page 1-- contacts, phone, messaging, browser, timescape, settings, setup guide, music, gallery, alarms, camera, email, market, facebook, calendar, maps

page2-- gmail, gtalk, navigation, places, latitute, support, sync, calculator, track ID, astro, youtube, ebuddy, news n weather, downloads, apps2sd, wallpapers HD

page3-- get apps, data monitor, power amp, mail, 3D camera, google search, xperia hotshots, connected devices, alice, FM radio, mobo player, clock, office suite, lets golf, wisepilot, equalizer

page4-- 3D album, McAfee security, music n videos(facebook), get games, uefa.com, voice search, update center, games n apps, O2 priority moments, liveware manager, SIM toolkit

that's odd, if your phone is SIM free, the O2 logo or any network's logo shouldn't appear at all, did you flash their firmware?

you can always debrand it, and get rid of the O2 logo and apps

http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/146337#146337

agree with uliwooly , maybe when you updated , somehow you got the update of o2..

and also , since its an operator's software , they fill the memory with bloatware ( unnecessary things which you cant even delete )

ok....re-update your phone...

first try with this..

http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1309763183/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.7.13.exe

click on install anyway when it shows you have the latest software ok..

if again you get the same thing.. the same logo , try a different pc then update it once more....

uliwooly's link is good , it will definately remove that o2 icon... i used the same method for my arc but still you should try my suggestions before doing that , re-updating might solve the problem..

and if it doesnt you should ask o2 whats going on... you should know why this happened in the first place..

hmmm. it seems that i will have to check with the update service link u provided. but before i do that i wanna ask about resetting my phone which u earlier mentioned. will a settings reset and factory reset erase the android 2.3.4 update too? also i need to know that is there a way to downgrade back from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3?? i wud like to try that as well...coz this prob was not there wen i used 2.3.3. n i agree with slimshaddy that it seems that i somehow got the O2 upgrade by chance. also i wud like to mention that wen i updated to 2.3.4 i was using update service version 2.11.1.9. but nonetheless it was Sony ericsson update service..so how i got the O2 update..beats me!

maybe cross connection

if you factory data reset your phone , it will not remove 2.3.4 ,

also you can downgrade by using the same method uliwooly suggested but with different files...so just try update service, if that doesnt works and uliwooly will give you the link to downgrade also

okk guys!!! i have re-updated my xperia Neo. i used the latest version of update service. n now wat i have is a mixed bag! thanks to u guys slimshaddy,,uliwooly...the main problem got solved. as soon as i updated the phone showed a welcome 284 MB internal memory. but..hold on there are still some spots of bother..

the darn O2 logo is still there weni switch my phone on or off. plus i have a feeling that the phone is somehow consuming more internal storage than it really should. lemme tell u what i did. as soon as my phone was ready after update...i connected to wi-fi n installed the following apps:-

1.adobe flash player- 12.85 MB

2. astro- 3.91MB

3. BBC news- 2.10MB

4. yahoo mail- 3.89 MB

5. mobo player- 7.52 MB

6. real player- 3.68 MB

now this approximates 34 MB total. so i shud have 250 MB left. but the phone now shows 223 MB left. this is wat i dont understand. also i noticed that there is an app called PO Box Touch of 11.75 MB which i didnt install n which i cant even delete. it was thr also before this update. is this app essential? if not then how do they find their way inside ppl's phones?

also the moment i turn on wi-fi, some apps start updating automatically..like gmail, astro, yahoo, facebook, adobe etc. earlier i used to allow these updates for every app. cud that have eaten up my fone's memory?

im still quite happy with 223 MB as long as it doesnt go downtown again..

tel me ur views
