I updated my Arc this week from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4

So far so good. However, eversince I have an issue with my bluetooth connection with my car.

The phone connects to the car without any problems and transfers the phonebook information. I can even make normal calls. But after a while (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes) the connection is lost and the car can not "talk" to the phone anymore. If I then touch any button on the phone, the connection re-establishes itself and I can make calls via bluetooth again.

Anybody has the same problem and/or knows any solution?

PS: never had this problem with 2.3.3 !

Thx !

Tried all this but it didn't work. problem persists.

I get the feeling it has to do with sleep mode. The problem only appears when the phone goes dark and in sleep mode. I can not make calls untill I awake the phone by pushing either the home button or on/off switch.

If somebody else calls me though, the phone awakes by itself and can be picked up by the bluetooth device.

I know for sure this never was a problem with the previous software as I used it for months without a problem.

The bluetooth device is a build in device in a BMW 5 series build 2010.

Any other ideas?

You may be right. This could be the new behaviour of 2.3.4 in an attempt to conserve battery life.

Just curious, have you installed any power ssving apps?

If you have some of these apps will turn off wireless functions like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc if it detects that the user is not actively using it.

No, I am not using any of such apps so this unfortunately can not be the problem. I wonder if I am the only one experiencing this issue? I see nobody else reacting with similar problems on the forum, so I wonder if it is a malfunction in my hardware?

I personally do not think you hardware has malfunctioned. More likely it could be the new 2.3.4 firmware is causing this issue since as you said it was working fine in 2.3.3.

If you really want to test this out you can do a manual downgrade to 2.3.3 and check if the problem is gone.

Obviously the downgrade is an unofficial process but you can always update again if you wish.

A couple of things to consider :

1) Backup your phone data and settings if you are thinking of downgrading the firmware.

2) Any operator version of your phone's firmware will be lost.

If interested to perform the downgrade refer to this post : http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/20095

I have exactly the same problem: BMW + arc + after the 2.3.4 upgrade, the bluetooth disconnects when the handset goes into its sleep mode. Pressing the button makes the phone reconnect - but that is totally pointless. Worked 100% when on 2.3.3.

Did you have any luck in getting a solution?

I have been checking this and I will copy paste the answer I just posted in a similar thread.

"I’m back and some tests have now been made.

The tests have been made based on the different problems reported by users here.
But it seems to be two main issues. The Bluetooth connection is either dropped completely or the car kit report that there is no network but Bluetooth connection still. But if you wake the phone manually or receive an incoming call the connection is restored.

What we have tested is:

Long time tested (2 days) the connection and network status with car kits from Toyota (CK 2010 (Denso)) , BMW and Volvo (CK 2010 (Continental) IAM 2.1)

We used several phone models running on this software and making calls from time to time and played and paused music to check the connection.

Findings:

On the Toyota and BMW kits we can’t see any strange behavior.

On the Volvo kit we did. 3 times it reported that there was no network available (only emergency call) And if we woke the display manually the network status got updated and came back, or if we tried to make a call from the car kit it updated itself and worked (even though it said no network connection) And after the call the car kit showed that it had network connection again. This seems to occur spontaneously because we could not locate any particular scenario when this happen.

The fact that the calls were possible to make could be due to the car kit implementation. A thought being that some car kit implementations might not even try to make the call if it shows no network. But we could not confirm that.

Hopefully this can help you understand the problem somewhat better, but please try to recreate a scenario when your problem appears and keep me updated. Also make sure that you’re using the latest firmware update for your car kit implementation."

What do you think about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

I've Also had this problem after the 2.3.4 update. What I've noticed is that when you're Bluetooth and Wifi is on within your phone, the bluetooth tends to disconnect within a matter of seconds or within a matter of minutes. If you turn off your WiFi on the phone the bluetooth signal never drops. So i assume that is a bug within the OS update. Since i dont think they would make an OS where the Bluetooth cannot function the way it should without having the WiFi turned off on your phone. Hopefully this information could be of some assisstance with this issue. The only solution i have found was to keep my wireless off until i need to use it.

The Bluetooth also doesn't reconnect until you turn off the bluetooth device and turn off the bluetooth on phone, then reconnect them both. If you notice after you turn off the bluetooth device the phone is still showing that it's connected to the bluetooth device when in reality it's not. Your WiFi Must be turned off before you turn on your bluetooth on phone and connect the device. Even if it is on for 1 second and you turn off the WiFi then connect the bluetooth device it will still disconnect. Best solution is to turn off the WiFi, then turn on the bluetooth or off and on assuming if it was on, then connect your bluetooth device. If you turn on your WiFi after this point while your bluetooth is working to its full potential, like i said even if it's for 1 second it will disconnect within seconds or minutes.

Message was edited by: KDan326

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operates at the same frequencies so it's not uncommon that they disturb each other. So if you're running Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same time you will most likely have some disturbances.

What do you think about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.
