Deleting the auto-complete, auto-save dictionary

Hello all,

My phone is a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 with update 2.1.

Ive been browsing through the web trying to find a solution to this problem and ive come up with no luck, so i thought i would post it here. My phone has i guess auto saved some incorrect words into its memory. For instance i spelled "lol" "lok" once, and now whenever i type in "lol", it auto corrects it to "lok". The same thing happens with the word "That's". for some reason i typed it "ThAt's" and now thats what it auto corrects it to. Another one is "she's". When i type she's it auto corrects it to "SHES"

I have checked the "User Dictionary" in the phone, but there is absolutley nothing in it saved. So i was wondering if there is any way to delete the words that it auto saved or reset them so it stops doing that. I dont wat to turn auto correct off because it is really helpful most of the time with the punctuation and such.

then i think go to settings > applications..

and try to find "messaging" app

after that click on clear data..

it'll delete all the messages and those words which were remembered

Hi, I don't think it is possible to remove words that are learnt. Either you disable auto correction or live with it.

Its strange though because the only "messaging" app its bringing up is the Yahoo one that i dont use.

Im trying to find the default Messaging app that came with the phone but i cant find it anywhere in the applications menu

eh well i guess ill disable it then. i just dont think i can put up with having to go back and correct the mis spelled word when im already halfway through the message.

Probably you could select 'Word suggestions only', you have the choice to tap the correct word.

but if he factory resets his phone ??

it will remove thhose words :smileygrin:

but dont know if he wants to do that..

Yeah, i dont think i really want ot go through the hassel of reseting my whole phone and all that jazz, i just thought there was a storage place for all those words it "learned" and from there i would be able to delete them. But it looks as though there isnt.

Try Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Menu button > Filter > All > Messaging > Clear data.

Should do it. The phone only list the user installed apps by default so you need to change the filter settings to see the stock apps.

I just thought I'd bump this old thread.

I haven't been able to find a way of deleting individual words from the user dictionary, but it seems rather bizarre that it isn't possible. I'm sure it could be done previously. Anyone have any helpful suggestions...?

there was someone who found out a way but i forgot , we had to clear some apps' data in order to clear user dictionary , i totally forgot.. go to all the downloaded applications and see which is related to user dictionary and clear the data , i'll try to find out...

( settings > applications > manage applications > all )

if you want to clear whole list then u need to clear the data of the type of keyboard u r using
inernational/japan/china keyboard> clear data

Yes, it's easy enough to delete the whole lot, but it still seems that the is no longer a way to edit the user dictionary in any useful way.

Found the solution!! My cellphone is the X10 little brother: the X8, it should work!!

Applications --> Manage apps --> (press menu button) --> Filter --> All --> Default Input --> Clear Data.

It'll reset all your keyboard settings!

Just in case it doesn't work: Before I did that, I also cleared the "com.android.providers.userdictionary" app, it didn't work by itself, maybe it's the combination of both!

I found a solution that allows you to delete individual words. I have an Xperia S.

Settings --> Language & input

Selet the keyboard in question - in my case that's the defauly Xperia keyboard.

Text input settings --> My words

Once in there, you can delete individual words.

I can do it on my Ion in the way you suggest. You can also go in to edit asnd delete individual words from ther keyboard itself, by tapping '12!?' and then the tools button on the numeric bit of the keyboard. It seems to differ according to which version of the software you have. Android 2.1 doesn't seem to allow it, but ICS does, in the way you describe. There are so many different versions that it's difficult to keep track.

SOLUTION:

Just had this problem myself. Go to settings, apps, (make sure you're looking at all, not installed or running) down to Xperia Keyboard, delete cache.

Verified this myself, it works. Grats.
