Unable to install or start phone software update components.

This error appears to be quite commmon when upgrading to Android 2.1, yet there seems nothing posted on fixing it.

Is there a directory on the PC or phone which is blocking this?

Anyone tried it on a second PC?

You can always try disabling any firewalls, anti virus apps etc. Also, are you behind proxy?

I have symantec Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2010 installed on my laptop and pc ,,

My previously try was on my laptop, and didnt work! ( i was disabled NIS 2010)

then i try again on my pc,,

1. uninstall norton internet securitu

2. restart pc.

3. install sony ericsson pc companion 2

4. try to update my xperia x10 from 1.6 to 2.1

and it's done.

I had the same problem and uninstalling the McAfee antivirus seemed to correct it. Just to note that I am also running XP in Vmware fusion so that does not seem to cause any issues.

i dont have any anti virus on my pc and i also turned off the firewall.but the problem still.

Same here. I set up a PC from scratch. Brand new XP installation, no anti-virus, no firewall, nothing on it. It still would not install. Going spare.

What about your internet connection? Is it through proxy?

You can post your logs here on the forums by:

1. Right click the PC Companion icon in tray

2. Select "About PC Companion"

3. Select "Dump the logs to desktop"

Maybe someone can help you find the problem.

For those guys who couldn't solve the problem,there is another way to update their phones.

you can use update service instead of pc companion.

Just get the installation file from sony ericsson official web site and install it on your pc then follow the instruction.

Its really easy.

I went to the web site and search for a download, but could not find it. It keeps saying that I should do it through PC Companion. Can you please give us a URL for this download.

PC Companion is normally found on your phone memory and will install when you connect your phone to the PC first time round.

If you're with Vodafone and trying to update to 2.1 then you will have to wait because they have not released the software. Vodafone have sent me an email. confirming this. I have been advised by a T-mobile customer that she has been able to update her phone. The reason I upgraded (and spent more money) to a X10i was because I was able to update over the internet but Vodafone neglected to advise me that I wouldn't be able to do this.

i also have this problem... im on 2.1 now... but im trying to repair it via PCC...tsk3... how to solve this problem?? and another question the latest buildnumber update... still havent got it?? any reassuring words out there of why im still not getting it??

i took off all the antivirus took down the firewall and used the update service and STILL SAME PROBLEM/... i get the bit where it says insert usb into phone while pushing on the back key.. NOTHING im just tired now of all this crap!

I had the same problem using my XP x64 PC but when I re booted into my Windows 7 partition it worked like a dream.

I am finding that W7 seems to have solved a lot of the old niggling problems.
