Receiving half a text message mixed with half a previous text message

I'm continuously having this problem when my boyfriend texts me.

His text message gets interrupted halfway through by an old message he sent before (be it a previous message from a few minutes ago or from weeks ago!)

It only happens with texts from him, no-one else.

I've tried deleting our conversation but it makes no difference. It's getting so frustrating cos I have to keep asking him to text me again and a lot of the time I just get another 'cracked' text!!!

Has anyone had the same problem? Have you been able to solve it?

the problem might not be your phone but his, he probably have poor reception or he has way too many txts, and thats why when you receive one the other txts he sent you a while back are just been sent, does he has a sony ericsson phone?

No I'm afraid he just bought a new phone today and it's still happening! No he's never had a Sony Ericsson.

I've read online threads showing other people having the same problem (and they all own Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pros!)

This is very strange indeed, to at least rule out the phone as the cause of the issue I would advise running a software update.

Perhaps it's to do specifically with his number, so try adding the country's prefix in front of it in your contacts list, or removing it if it was saved with the prefix before.

Dr_Chris may be right on this one, do try as he recommends and if that does not work you may also wish to try completely deleting him your contact list and adding him again as a fresh contact.

Nope I'm afraid none of that has worked... Do you think restoring my phone to factory settings might solve the problem? However I'd only do this if it was possible to retrieve all my data via the Backup & Restore etc.

To be honest I am really out of recommendations as resetting the phone will in fact do less than the software update you have already performed. You could try asking the network provider for a replacement SIM as another possible fix though.

Hi,

Has anyone who experienced this problem been able to resolve it? I have the Xperia X10 on Android 2.1 and have just started getting this problem in the past 6 weeks or so. Initially it was just with one contact, so I tried deleting my message history because it was quite large. This didn't seem to resolve the problem. I've now started seeing it with 2 other contacts, both who typically send very long messages.

I get midway through the reading the message they've sent, then it merges (mid-word) into an old one for a sentance or two, then sometimes takes the last sentance back off the intended message. It's very confusing!

I've tried a software upgrade, but it didn't work. Interested to know if anyone has tried getting a new sim and found that to work? I am on O2

how come you are on android 2.1?

backup everything and use Update Service to update/repair phone

once you update to 2.3.3 the backup and restore app will be gone, so this is how to reinstall it

also check the other methods to backup your phone. Once you have 2.3.3 check if you still have the same issue.

I have a similar issue, but it's not my phone, the problem is with some friend's phones or not their phones but since they are with other networks their long messages are split so that could be the problem too. also go to the market and download

if 2.3.3 it's not available on your network you can manually update your phone

I'm on android 2.1 because it's taken O2 this long to finally admit that they have no intention of releasing the 2.2 update for the Xperia X10. Thanks for your replies uliwooly-wooly - I'll give your suggestions a try and let people know if it fixed the problem.

Hi everyone. I'm having exactly the same problem, I am also on O2 with android 2.1. (I have an X10 mini). For me it only happens with texts from my husband and I regularly delete my messages but it still ends up mixing and matching messages even from those I have deleted already. For me it doesn't even necessarily happen with a longer message, it tends to use 1-2 sentences from the new message with one sentence or a few words from an older message. He has a Nokia N8 but it used to happen even when he had a different Nokia. It doesn't happen when I send messages to him. When the phone was relatively new it happened maybe once or twice over several months, now it happens almost every day.

I suppose that 2.3 update is for the X10, not X10 mini? Has anyone with an X10 mini found a solution to this very irritating problem?

I did the upgrade to Android 2.3.3 over the weekend and since then I've had no issues. It's only been 24 hours so far, so I might yet see it again. Have exchanged plenty of texts with one of the contacts it usually happened with. Will let you know if I see it happen again. Not sure if 2.3 is available for the X10 mini, but I'm sure someone else will know.

I just wish O2 had approved these updates themselves so I didn't have to mess around with things I'd rather leave alone!

i have recently bought sony experia x10i

i have an issue regarding the text messages. when i type a text after few words or maybe after the length of a normal single text message ,it transforms the sms into mms.

Briefly,my phone doesnt send sms upto the length of about 30-40 words

i am worried. is it common for all android phones?

please help me

This is normal; anything over 160 characters will be converted like this so that it is still able to be sent.
