Hello there,

I'm hoping you guys on here can help me decide which phone to get.

All the comparison discussions I can find are between the Ray and the Arc, but for me the Arc is too big. I thought I'd decided on he Neo, but the delayed release was so long that now the Ray is going to be around, and I dont know which to go for.

Neo:

Pros - dedicated camera button, HDMI output, prefer the symmetry/camera lens in the centre.
Cons - bigger, fatter.

Ray:

Pros - smaller, thinner.
Cons - no dedicated camera button, no HDMI output.

As for camera, I don’t know which is better - LED on the Neo, or ‘photo light’ on the Ray?

Will I miss a real camera button? (all my previous SE phone have had one)

Do I really ‘need’ HDMI output?

The Ray is a much nicer size BUT are the differing camera features going to make me wish I’d gone for the Neo?

Any chance of help please?!

Both of them have LED flash and Flashlight (when taking videos)

Thank you for your replies.

To clarify - the “photo light” on the Ray is exactly the same as the “LED” on the Neo?

So the only difference between the 2 in terms of the camera is the physical button on the Neo that is missing on the Ray?

I don’t own a standalone camera so my phone is all I have for pics and vids, I need to get on ok with it.

Is not having a dedicated button an advantage / disadvantage? Will it make operating it trickier?

HDMI, nope you’re probably right, I can easily do without it.

As for hand size, the Neo felt fine, wouldn’t want any bigger though (Arc), the Ray is so much more pocketable as you say.

Hello,

I thought I'd better pop back and let you know what I decided, in case it helps others decide.

Well, I waited for the Ray to be released, and went into the shop and looked at them both side by side.

I came away with the Neo.

Although the Ray was smaller and thinner, in my opinion it did not sit as well in the pocket, its ‘sharp’ edges made it noticeable and also not nice to hold in the hand. But the Neo blends into the pocket as it has curved edges, and is a pleasure in the hand.

The screen on the Ray was quite a lot more difficult to see stuff on than the Neo.

I was right to be cautious of no dedicated camera button on the Ray, it was not so easy to take photos in my opinion.

That’s all really, thanks for your help on this site. I’ve had the Neo for a week and am so far very happy with it.

I'm glad you are happy with your phone, make sure you have the latest update and that you install the backup & restore app or this other options to backup everything

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail
