Hi everybody!

My Xperia M4 Aqua was fallen down last week. There was a protection for the screen and the back side, so that there were no scartches or brakes on the phone after the fall. Instead of this, the screen was just black. I turned it off and on again, but there was no success. I could fell the vibration when I try to enter my code. The camera button also worked, so that I could take photos although the screen was black.

I tried to reset the phone, but because of the black screen, I couldn`t see anything. I also downloaded "Xperia Companion" on my PC and saved the data.

There is a familiar problem discussed in this community about the "black screen problem", which I already found. But my question is a different one: I would like to know, whether it is possible to reset the phone from the PC? I read that you can reset the phone by itself. But as I already told you, the screen is black. I can´t use the regular reset process. Can I reset the phone by the PC or by "Xperia Companion"? I would like to reset the phone before I`ll send it to reparation.

Thank you for your help in anticipation!

Hi @xxJoxx,

Sorry to hear about your phone. Unfortunately if this happened after a fall to the ground it's possible that something inside the phone might be damaged, if that is the case then there is a possibility that you will not be able to reset your phone.

If your computer can detect your phone you can reset it using Xperia Companion by performing a software repair using Xperia Companion. This does, however, require the phone to be charged to at least 80%. It might take about 30 minutes for the device to indicate that it is charging if it is completely discharged, during this period the display may remain black. Try charging your device for about 4 hours as it can take a while for a completely depleted battery to fully charge.

If possible, use a Sony original charger and USB-cable specifically intended for your device. Other chargers may be too weak or too strong as they may have a different electric current rating (mA).
