My handset seems to be on permanent mute - i can hear the other person - but they cannot here me?

What's the fix without sending the handset away please ..?

Factory reset?
That might clear up any bugs in mic software.

Sorry to hear about this issue, let's see what we can to do help resolve it for you.

The first suggestion I have would be to perform a diagnostics test on the microphone, follow the instructions below to see how this done.

Apps > Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test > Microphone

If this issue continues, then you may need to boot into Safemode, as this issue may be caused by third party applications.
