Hello,

I'm experiencing a problem where my recent apps list goes empty even if I haven't killed any of them. It stays empty until I reboot the device, after which all of them returns.

This problem has existed since the Lollipop, but it's more apparent in Marshmallow.

XPERIA M5 (E5663)

Android 6.0

Welcome to the community.

How frequently does this happen? Is it something you can replicate easily?

Yes, it happens often.

In fact, it's inevitable. It always happens after a few minutes or a few hours of normal usage.

I recently booted into safe mode.

I'll be needing a few hours to see if it happens in safe mode. I'll reply when I have an update.

I have been using it in safe mode, and I can confirm that the bug doesn't occur in safe mode.

I have discovered that using apps with high resource demand increases the chance of this bug happening.

Also, the apps are still running, not killed. They simply don't show up on recent apps. When I run them again, they are still in their previous state.

And no, I do not have any task killer app installed.

If the issue is not occurring in safe mode then it will have to be caused by a third party app. At this point it's a matter of determining what app is causing it.

To start with, I recommend you make sure all of your apps are up to date with the latest versions, even if they are apps you don't use often.

I've been checking my apps for newer versions.

Both Google Play and What's New report that all of my apps are up-to-date.

@Sentrist,

Unfortunately, that means a either tedius process of figuring out exactly what app is causing the issue. You will have to one by one start uninstalling apps, and testing after each uninstall, until you can figure out where the conflict is.

Alternatively, run a software repair on the handset. Keep in mind that this will completely erase your handset, so be sure to do a back up.

Is factory reset equivalent to software repair? Because I have done it for an unrelated issue.

I am now using the phone with a different set of apps and the bugs still happens.

From what I could gather, the bug isn't caused by a particular app, but by how the system handles high-demand apps running one after another.

I'll try removing each of my current apps to see what would happen.
