Phone not visible in Xperia Companion

I want to back up my phone so I can reset it but upon connecting my phone, it doesn't show up in Xperia Companion. I've unplugged the cable both from phone and PC and restarted PC but to no avail.

Help please.

Does a pop up on your phone appear after connecting it to PC? You should choose "MTP Transfer"

I get no option to do anything

I ended up doing Xperia Software Repair....so who knows what I've done

Hi @Nessa_77,

A software repair will erase your handset and re-install Android....

If you did not have a back up, I am afraid you may have lost all your information.

I did transfer all my photos and videos, that's the main thing.

Oh well, I'll see what happens.

This phone frustrates me.

OK lucky. Your contacts are normally synced to your Gmail account too so you should be OK.

What was the main issue you were facing? Why did you need to perform a software repair?

How did you back up your photos? Or have you been able to restore them already?

For contacts, calendar etc, you can simply add your Google account back into your phone.

To do this please go to Settings > Accounts > Add, then add your Google account. It should sync automatically but if it does not, go to Settings > Accounts > Accounts > Google > Your Gmail account > Menu (3 dots) > Sync Now.

Photos dragged and dropped to PC via Windows Explorer.

Still going through things to restore.

OK, restoring them should be just as easy, essentially the reverse of what you did to back them up. You just need to have your PC recognise your phone.

Can you try another USB port and/or another USB cable?

So far some of my apps have reinstalled.

Contacts missing though.

Follow the steps I listed above, you should be able to get your contacts back.

"Settings > Accounts > Add, then add your Google account. It should sync automatically but if it does not, go to Settings > Accounts > Accounts > Google > Your Gmail account > Menu (3 dots) > Sync Now."

Hmm. Double check they aren't being filtered.

Open Contacts, then press Menu (3 dots) > Filters. Tick everything in here except "Online contacts", making sure to tap on Gmail to expand it, and tick everything in there too.

The only other thing I can suggest you try is to go to Menu > Import and see if you had a contact card file on your SD card.

But, I'm afraid if the data was not backed up, we will have no way to retrieve it. I apologise for the inconvenience this causes you.

My last attempted back up was mid last year and it failed, along with the 5 previous attempts.

Again, this phone frustrates me.
