Please note that the Tips & tricks section is not meant for support bur rather sharing knowledge. I have moved your thread temporarily to the Xperia Z2 board, so please let me know which phone model you are using.

As @nolramlb said, there is a proximity sensor located at the top of your Xperia. If this sensor is covered, the screen will go black which helps you during a call. This way, you can avoid accidentally ending calls with your cheek for example. Make sure that you do not have anything obstructing the sensor, for example dirt or a screen protector.

Can you try to see if the same occurs without a screen protector, while the sensor is clean as well as during safe mode?

Let me know how it went!

Is the sensor clear of any dirt as well? Make sure that there's no damage done to the display or frame as well.

If it still persists, could you try performing a software repair using Xperia Companion and then report back?
