At the same time, wondering if we really do need the tempered glass protector, seeing that XZ has Corning Gorilla Glass?

I just bought a new Xperia XZ and it is still new in my region, I want to buy that glass screen protector to protect the screen from scratches
Is it available? And which previous models can fit ( camera, speakers, sensors )
Eg. I had a Xperia z2 and the glass protector of the z3 also was the same )

it is always better to have added protection., even it is equipped with a specific glass, it is still described as scratch RESISTANT and not scratch PROOF, you can search online for screen protectors designed for XZ. but better yet get style covers like this one http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-xz/accessories/style-cover-stand-scsf10/

I don't mind the screen being scratched, but would it shatter on the pavement or hard surface if for instance I don't have a tempered glass screen? I noticed that tempered glass would make the screen less "vibrant". Also style covers would not work so well if mounted on my windscreen as I use Waze to navigate.

There is no guarantee that having a glass screen protector fitted will prevent any actual screen damage to your XZ if it was to suffer a hard impact BUT it may prevent it, i have seen instances where a person has damaged their phone by dropping/hard impact & the glass screen protector has cracked/shattered but once peeled off the actual phone screen is intact. If you do decide on one read some reviews & pick the best you can afford...they are extremely thin & do not interfere with the functionality of the actual phone screen or the colours etc

That's true. I actually have been using a Z3 with tempered glass protectors on the front and back but have always wondered that when they crack, are they really saving the screen from damage or is it because the tempered glass cracks easily anyway?

ikramkhasim.....indeed, there was a post on the Forum just a little while ago (not sure what section/mobile) of someone who had dropped/smashed the screen...luckily he/she had fitted a glass screen protector & once this was taken off the mobile screen was intact & perfect......a fine example :smileysmileywink:
