Updating facebook

Just got a Xperia e5, trying to update Facebook app, downloads and verifys then start to install but then says "sorry, something went wrong please try again. Have tried with and without wifi turned off location but nothing seems to work....help

Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear you're having difficulty downloading an app.

Do you have the same issue when you try to download any other app?

How much free space do you have on the internal memory of your phone? You can check this under Settings > Storage.

It just says storage usage 40%

Just found storage data, it says 6.44 FB of 16.00 go used internal storage

OK, try uninstalling the Facebook app, restart your phone, and download it again.

How do you uninstall the app, can only seem to disable it ?

It must be a pre-installed application on your device. Let's reset it. To do this, under Settings > Apps > Facebook, uninstall any updates, force stop and clear data. Restart your phone, then try to do the update again.

Unfortunately no joy, just keeps saying sorry something went wrong, also tried to install FB messenger and that won't install either

I wonder if the issue is that it is a pre-installed one. I know facebook removed Android integration a while ago. If you search Facebook on the Play Store, is there a seperate app you can download?

When I searched for Facebook on play store it shows app but says it is installed but needs updating, tried updating from store and still no luck, very frustrating

Stranger still is that my wife got exactly same phone today and hers updated fine

Gonna have to try tomorrow as its too late to start messing about now, will check for a solution then...thanks for everything and maybe we can sort it out soon

The last thing I can suggest is to reset the Play Store and downloads. Do this in the same way as you reset Facebook before, (Settings > Apps > Play Store/Downloads > Clear Data > Force stop).

Failing this, run a software repair using Xperia Companion.

I hope you get it sorted.

I recommend accessing facebook via a browser and uninstalling the app. Saves battery and gets rid of messenger. This is what I do. If you do this, force the browser to load in desktop mode, and if the url retains m.facebook.com, manually change it to www.facebook.com

Thanks for the reply, the only problem I have is that I need messenger as well but when I try and install it in browser it won't let me do that either

Do you require messenger for a specific purpose other than just messaging friends on Facebook?
