fed up with useless keyboard layout - alternative keyboard recommendations??

for the last couple of years (on z1 & z5) the stock xperia keyboard (and the google downloadable one) sit too low in landscape mode unless you have disjointed thumbs.

in the google play pictures it shows the home bar menu ( < ^ [] ) sitting BELOW the qwerty keyboard, but in reality on the phone, that menu bar stays on the short edge along the side of the landscape screen... this means the bottom line of the qwerty keyboard is below the arc of a normal male thumb and thus hard to type.

i want a keyboard that sits a little higher than the bottom of the screen in landscape mode.

anyone know of one?
