Phone overheat while idle.

I just bought z5 P 3 days ago. Every things is fine except it battery often drain quickly while idle. I need help. I have tried geenify. No help. Phone very hot when idle even thought i am not even touch it.

We'll need more info to better assist you

charge the phone 100% use it as you normally would then once the battery reaches 10%

settings > battery usage > take screenshots of:

1. the list

2. tap on the graph and take a screenshot

3. back > tap on the top 4 items on the list > take a screenshot of each

post them all here or upload the screenshots to box or dropbox or google drive or etc and post the link

Think it is about time this reply was made a sticky, with a couple of screenshots included to help show what we need to be looking at. 👍🏻

first off i can say that the z5 premium is one of the best sony phones i've owned, it's stunning to look at the screen is really good it has those speaker cuts i love and the glass is extremely resistant to smudges and water in general you just wipe once and it's clean, i also love that the fingerprint scanner is so subtle i would have wished that it had a metal back or simpler had a gray frame similar to the z1, only reason i wen't with the z5 premium is because the z5 had frosted glass i also feel my z1 is more comfortable to hold without being curved like the z3 is, curves ruin design to me, the z ultra had the best frame i am dissapointed that you moved away from the frame of z1-z2 z ultra and even more so with the curved back of the x perfomance, my z5 premium also slipped out of my hand i tried to grab it but instead threw it so it fell to the floor not a scratch.

Ok now to the bad part the overheating, this phone overheats for me 5 times per day sometimes to the point where i can't use it i can't use it as a hotspot as it overheats and turns the hotspot off, it overheats very easily when recording videos with for example kik, the camera is very difficult to use due to constant overheating, the phone lags alot due to overheating it's a overall laggy phone, my z ultra is less laggy than the z5 premium, another problem i have is that the screen seems to have autobrightness even though it's off, i can see the screen dimming sometimes and staying there, overall i like the screen of my tablet z2 and the z ultra more than the z5premium.

in short i love this phone but the overheating makes me want to change to the s7 edge as this phone is unusable at this point.

boot on >>> safe mode for an hour or so and see if you experience the same, if you don't then it's a third party app

my room is quite warm because i have a pc running constantly according to the temp app i downloaded my phone hit about 70 degrees c

yeah still overheating the overheating icon is already showing in the camera in safemode

EDIT:the camera had to be turn off to cool down

Try this, first charge the phone > restart the phone > let it cool down, once it has cooled down > boot on safe mode.

Most likely you have a lot of apps running in the background that creates this problem, follow my suggestion and report back.

Yeah i'm getting tired of this the phone started lagging again and turned the hotspot off and warned about high temp, i may have to return it at this point it's brand new it's not app related as i barely have any apps on it.

You could contact your Local support or you could try this

repair the phone with PCC > do NOT reinstall any app nor backup, don't even enter your Gmail account > once the phone its repaired > charge it > restart the phone > let it cool down > use it w/o installing anything for few hours > see if you experience the same problem, also check the mobile network coverage

settings > about phone > status > signal strength as if its poor it will heat up your phone and drain your battery.

i've checked temp, cpu usage hits about 98% when hotspot is on and once temp goes over about 60-62 degrees c thats when the phone starts lagging, when it hits 63 thats when hotspot is forced turned off and the phone starts lagging extremely for a few seconds.

doing a full wipe is not something i'd like to do i first need to know if this is normal

the phone overheats so much during hotspot that it kills the hotspot this after like 10 min of use

the phone overheats alot so the camera can't be used much

the phone overheats often to the point where it starts to lag

i know about the 810 so i wounder if this is normal

I can't recreate that with my phone, but again, try either of the above suggestions and report back.
