Also if you store photos in a SD card, thumbnails most of the times are stored in the internal storage. The first picture you see using gallery it's not the original photo but the thumbnail itself, if after clicking/tapping the corrupted thumbnail the picture open without problems the thumbnail's database or thumbnails' storage may be corrupted. If that is the case you can clean the cache and the device will restart recreating thumbnails. If the internal storage space is low it won't be able to create thumbnails correctly.

I usually store the photos directly on the sd card. But even earlier when they were stored in the internal memory they this was happening. At that time I had not put a sd card in the device.

@Christofer, I have not transfered it to a pc. But the distorted image is still distorted if transfered to another mobile phone ( Samsung). Also the distorted image is still distorted in the playmemories online when viewed from another device

@yogem. In my case its just opposite. The thumbnail is distorted of only a few photos ( in which case the bigger image is also distorted) but most of the time, it's only after clicking a ok thumbnail that the full sized image turns up half greyed.

Ok so if the thumbnail is good and then the real photo is damaged and viceversa means that your storage unit is corrupted. You could factory reset your phone but it's better if you repair it using Sony PCC.

My photos are getting distorted even more and faster than ever before. When I see them a little while after they are clicked I find many not turning up in full and are greyed.

Some one do respond and help. I am losing so many of my photos.

What does "referred to Repair Network" singnify. What does the owner of the phone needs to do?

Pp30, try to repair with Xperia Companion which u can find here: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiac5ultradual/tools/xperia-companion/ (windows), http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiac5ultradual/tools/xperia-companion-mac/ (mac). When u install Xperia Companion in PC (computer), choose software repair section, then next, mark "yes, i know my google account details" and push again next, wait for a while for computer when it initialize, after that u can see how to connect smartphone with computer and then wait until Xperia Companion repair yr device. When disconnect smartphone and turn on and wait while smartphone show u settings place. By the way first time need to wait a little more that later. So don't scare if for a while mobile long don't load or don't turn on. Just do how is written in Xperia Companion and i hope everything will be fine.

IMPORTANT: BEFORE repair do copy of your files (music, pics and ect), coz repair will delete all your files from smartphone memory. Mobile numbers and ect. U will must install all apps again and set all settings. Repair can not help if is something others with yr camera, others damages, if u will see that repair don't help u try to visit place where u bought mobile and ask personality worker from which u bought mobile for information what can be happen. Or u can try to ask first, coz maybe u just doing something bad, wrong. For me was one time too with Xperia M i think that was cloudy day and one pic was very dark, but others not. I'm using automatic settings so maybe just need more light, maybe need just to check settings. It's hard to say when u can not see smartphone. Repair must help u, worker which selling smartphones thsese must help u too.

I must write this: i don't assumes no responsibility for damaged your phone. I mean Xperia Companion and how u repairing your smartphone. But i hope u will repair it without any problems, coz it's really easy (but maybe just for me). Good luck

hi i had started this thread some times back but still this problem is not settled. my phone is now updated from lollipop to marshmallow

the problem is my photos after they are clicked gets greyed, some times little and some times almost whole of it. whether they are stored in internal memory or sd card. i had given it for repair to local support twice, they had kept it with them for almost a month. i received it a few days back and still my photos greyed.

i had then performed a repair with the xperia companion software , and still again the photo greyed. i hoping that anyone can actually suggest a permanent solution for this problem.
