AT&T VoLTE ?

Is this working with the International E6653 for anyone on AT&T?

My phone is getting LTE/4G ... dial a call and the status bar drops down to H+ during the call then back to 4G when call ends. So it is not using VoLTE. Also setting for 'Advanced LTE Services' (under Mobile Networks) is not present on the phone.

My account and SIM are provisioned with my phones actual IMEI. I'm using the ATTNextgen APN. VoLTE and HD Voice are available in my market. Wondering if the old trick of using an iPhone IMEI might be needed.

I think @uliwooly is on AT T so I've tagged to see if he can help.
I've got a strong feeling tho, the only way for it to work is with the AT T firmware installed.

Most Sony Mobile mid- and high-end devices from Xperia™ Z2 (2014) and later can support VoLTE, but it is always the operator who decides which products and which markets to support.

Ahhh I just moved to the US from New Zealand. Brought my Z5 with me. On AT&T and was wondering why the call quality is so poor and takes a little extra time to connect. Obviously switching from 4G to H+.

If anyone is able to resolve this I would be very interested.

The networks here do some strange things.

The topic of the thread was if VoLTE was working with the Z5 for anyone on AT&T. Looks like BMW42 is in the same situation as me.

Please.... don't need responses about coverage, carrier etc ....

Just looking for actual Z5 users that are on AT&T (in a known VoLTE area) that can verify VoLTE or phone dropping to H+ when making calls. If anyone is getting VoLTE please chime in as to what you did.

I'm in the middle of DC so no issues with signal.

I'm on 4g 99% of the time until I make a call. Call quality is very poor.

I am better to use skype or something simlar to get HD voice.

Found something interesting today .. the North America 'E5803' Z5 Compact model ... does not even have a quick setting icon for VoLTE when you go and try to the edit icons that show up in the quick settings pull down menu. So given that both North America models are only Cat4 compliant they must not even be able to do VoLTE, in addition to no fingerprint reader function.

I read on a Mac forum about iphone 6S (carrier free) phones having the same issue ... LTE connection for data is just fine, but make a call and it drops down to H+, then back to LTE when call ends. One user posted that working through tier III support he was able to have his account/phone modified so that it worked.

If I can do same ... I'll report back.

My premium has no volte quick setting Icon either. Because the carrier firmware I have, does not use it.
What firmware do you have on the phone? I believe most volte settings are based on networked firmware.

I'm using a carrier free phone. It only has generic Sony firmware and apps. Phone is the E6653 (International version). The North America versions of the Z5 and Z5c were recently released in USA, but no carrier is providing them. They also are being sold carrier free. Then you need to contact at&t and see if they even support volte on sim free handsets.

contacted AT&T, they said different things, they first said that as long as the phone its capable and you are on a contract it should work, then they said that only if the phone its SIM locked.

I had to return my far east (asian) firmware phone due to issue with power button and ordered a replacement from a retailer in the UK. That phone came today, German firmware, instructions etc ... anyways ... NO VoLTE quick setting icon appeared on the phone like which the asian model had.

Phone also displays LTE for connection status vs. 4G that the asian model did, which is kind of nice since that is the norm in USA.

So ... dialing a call ... phone drops to HSPA and then returns to LTE just like the asian model. So NO VoLTE with AT&T.

Will pursue with AT&T tech support.
