Sadly it has been like this since day one with z5 for the most people. Comming from both Z and Z1 it was shocking to read all the stories not just here but in the norwegian forum about the weak batteri. It really is weird because in standby its good. However as quick as you turn on your phone it start burning trough your battery and the phone getting a lot more hotter then the previous ones. Tried to resett the phone to fabric standard without any luck. Calling a spade a spade Sony should recognized this issiue and accept that its probably the snapdragon together with the firmware.

I can understand that Sony getting away from the Z series since Z5 is the worst one yet and its getting a bad reputation. And sadly from my part, the last phone from Sony. Tired to charge my phone twice a day and trying everything, even fabric standard too see if it could help. Because I really wanted to like this phone, when it works it really works but when it starting to get hot, it starting to get random latencys, every times. Hopefully 6.0 will adress something of this and even here Sony seems not to deliver. How long have 6.0 been out? What abbout the other phones ? http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/134946-when-is-android-6-0-marshmallow-coming-to-my-phone

My Z5 cannot last longer than 6 hrs with normal use, it cannot even last on standby for more than 6 hours. I'm hoping it's just a software bug because since November my phone has been working flawlessly. It also changes very slowly and that's on quick charge using the official Sony charger that came with the phone. It won't even recognize on my pc when I plug it in.

My Z5 has been overheating when performing basic tasks. The battery also drains very quickly. I need to charge at least twice a day with normal usage and three times with heavy usage. I returned my initial unit. The second unit is giving me the same issues. I upgraded from a Sony Z3 compact where I reliability got a day and half of usage. Reading different user groups, this appears to be quite wide spread. Sony you still do not acknowledge this issue. I note the launch of the X performance series. Sony please offer exchanges to this phone. Presumably these issues have been fixed on snapdragon 820. Sony time to take accountability.

so far I have charged the battery twice for today, now it's sitting at 22%, it was running flawlessly a couple days ago then after on update bam this happens, I wonder if it's a software issue, although I recently did a factory reset, also I notice the phone gets quit warm when charging, oh and also it does not recognize when I plug it into my pc, nothing happens, I hear the beep and nothing pops up on the phone neither pc, and I can only charge it using the charger

In many cases battery managers actually end up draining more battery than they save, especially on lollipop. They close apps which android will automatically re-open, and the battery manager will close them again and so on. The cycle of opening and closing apps causes a large drain on the battery.

It could potentially be part of the issue. Are you able to perform uliwooly's test again, but with the phone in safe mode?

EDIT: Just to be sure, did you perform the full test while it was in safe mode? As in use your device normally from 100% to 10% while in safe mode?

You can try running a software repair, but I think you will have to have the unit assessed by a repair agent. If the software repair does not work, contact your local support team to arrange a repair.

Wait, you are using qualcomm battery guru, that app won't help you as it's for sure interfering with the xperia battery management, first of all uninstal Qualcomm Battery Guru then try to activate developer mode (settings, about phone, scroll down til the end and click several times build number until it say you are a developer now) then access developer options and click to process stats, check which one of the background/foreground app is running atypically 100% of times. An example: If you use Facebook don't be afraid if in the background it runs 100% of the time but be afraid if it does it in foreground.

@a00r, Try the software repair, but if that doesn't help you might have a faulty battery, and will have to contact your local support team for a repair.

@Rnaidusa, As uliwooly said your phone is constantly awake, which would contribute to the large battery drain. It is very likely an app that is keeping your phone awake. Try the same tests in safe mode.
