Cannot keep wifi on with screen off

I want to be able to keep the wifi on when the screen turns off so I can download files or play radio etc.
I have tried adding apps to the stamina whitelist, turning stamina off, tried several 'keep wifi alive' apps. None of them work, wifi still turns off with screen.
Is there anything else I can try please?

Go to wifi advanced settings, there you have keep wifi on during sleep: you can set it to always or never or only when charging.

Already tried that, sorry forgot to put this in the post. I have tried both options, makes no difference if plugged in or not. Also tried both options in the 'wifi optimisation'.

Make sure that stamina mode its off, do you have any other antivirus or battery apps on your phone?

Sorted, I uninstalled Avast after reading your post, rebooted & it seems to be working as it should if I set the wifi to stay on when asleep. I guess I will just check to see how much more battery that uses & change that setting bavj & forth when needed.
I could not see anything in Avast that should have caused the problem but it is gone now so thank you.
