Movie Record Settings Reset continuously to default

In the phone camera, the video recording settings I change do not stay when I switch apps. I changed the photo and focus settings and whenever I switch apps or exit the settings remain. But this does not happen in the video recording app. I change settings to single focus and steady shot off but whenever I leave the video app and return it goes back to default face focus and steady shot on.

Hi @AzimB,

Welcome to the community.

Try resetting the Camera app by going to Settings > Apps > All > Camera > Clear data > Force stop.

Thanks but that did not resolve the issue. Photos keep my settings but video keeps reverting back to face detection and steady shot

@AzimB, can you try it in safe mode to see if it's a third party application interferring with it?

That didn't help with the issue either. video recording is the only app that doesn't save my setting preferences.

Double check that your device is completely up to date, and failing that you might have to run a software repair.

My Z5 is up to date with the latest software and builds.... issue persists. It's very annoying to have to keep changing the focus mode and steadyshot whenever I want to record something.

Are you launching it from the physical camera button, or from the app in the phone?

I have tried launching from both app and launch button and whenever I change video record settings it always reverts back to face detection focus and steady shot

@AzimB,

If you launch it with the camera button it will revert to the default settings as it's meant to be a function for quickly taking shots. It should save the settings if you launch it directly from the app.

Can you please give this a quick try, just open the app, change a few settings, close the app and open it again, all without using the camera button?

I just tried your steps and it keeps reverting back to face detection and steady shot on. I don't use the quick launch button, I just tried it when you suggested above.

I'm afraid I'm at a loss. I am not able to replicate this problem on our handsets here, and everything you have mentioned suggests it's a software issue.

Hi Cameron & Sony Support

As you can see, if I change the video record settings and swipe left to the photo camera and swipe right back to the video camera, it returns to Face Detection w/ Steady Shot ON.

I prefer to have single autofocus and steady shot OFF. I take a lot of location/animal/object videos and face detection is not ideal.

The photo camera app maintains my preferred settings, but the video camera app does not. Also, this occurs whether I launch via the camera app or the phone's side launch button.
