The backup service on PC companion always crashed when I tried to use it with previous phones, why would this phone be any different?

There are apps/programs available to download to PC from the internet which claim to recover data, has anyone ever tried using any of these? Any recommendations if they work?

I recently updated my Z5 Compact to android 6.0 but it didnt work properly and some of the issues were frustrating me, so I decided to try a Repair Software using my PC.
At no point was I offered to back-up my phone before going through with this as it says data may be lost.
The repair was successful and fixed some of the issues, but I have lost all of my data - contacts, messages, etc.
Is there any way to recover anything?

You should have backed up without being told to. Internal memory most likely won't be recovered.

Well it didnt say the phone would be wiped and in a situation when something like that is likely to happen, you get the option.
Also with the upgraded pc software, there is no backup option, there is software update, browse phone and repair software, how was i supposed to find the backup?

Well PC companion is still there, and there are also other ways to backup files beside that. I am sorry but you should have been more careful.

Hi @Benjiiman,

Welcome to the community.

The Z5 series has a really nice automatic back up feature that I recommend you take advantage of. While this won't help you get your data back, it will help prevent losing it again.

Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Automatic backup.

You can set it to back up to your SD card or an online account. If you reset your phone, when you set it back up it will automatically look for a back up and you can choose to restore it.

You can also perform a manual back up here too.
