Missing a received call number from call log

Hiya, I've got a Sony xperia l
The other day someone rang me with the number shown, he asked me to contact him later on, when I went into my call log later on his number had just disappeared. All other numbers and calls were there but this one has gone? My self and my husband have searched my phone for it just in case I was having a moment but nope its not there I called virgin to see if they could get the number that called me and as usual data protection etc came into play and they couldnt help.
Is there any way at all of recovering this number as I know this guy is patiently waiting for my call and now probably just thinks I'm rude. Oops
Any help, ideas or fixes would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that, but your carrier/network should be able to help you get the number from that call.

Yeah I've tried but they just say they don't have access but even if they did they couldn't give it me due to data protection which is just ridiculous as I'm only asking for a number that should be showing on my call log anyways. Thanks for replying though guess we will just have to hope he calls back

That doesn't make sense, you should be able to get that number, also, you can check your phone bill, it should show the calls that you made and received

The phone bill just shows made calls not received maybe its virgin

Most likely it is, you could try to download another phone app and see if you are able to retrieve the number.
