Hi there

So I went swimming yesterday (in fresh water) with my supposedly-waterproof Xperia Z3 Compact. The screen went blank after about 15-20mins while I was taking a picture and eventually died. I kept it out of the water thereafter and tried to dry it out in the sun - I removed the SIM and SD cards and left the flaps open - but it remained dead the rest of the day. When I got home I plugged in the charger but the charging light blink red continuously and wouldn't boot up, so I unplugged it and put it in a bowl of rice to dry out further. I've just checked it this evening and I've found that it is now constantly vibrating 3 times over-and-over. I tried switing the phone on but the vibrating just stops for a little bit and then starts again. I guess I'd like to know if this is a good or bad sign?! Will it eventually dry out fully and be usable again?

If the phone is not going to be usable again, does anyone know if it's possible to recover data (photos/videos) from the internal storage? The SD card is fine. I've removed it and can access the stuff stored there, but for some reason it seems the internal storage has been the default location for photos and videos since 13th December - maybe the SD card was near capacity do it changed over? But I'd really like to be able to get the photos and videos I've taken since 13th Dec as there are a lot of Christmas/family pics there that hadn't been synced with my Dropbox yet.

Thanks in advance for your help

Niall

I'm sorry to hear that, contact your local Xperia care and request a vacuum test, that will prove who is at fault, either a faulty device or you didn't firmly closed the covers

Contact your local Xperia care

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

If the phone doesn't turn on, you won't be able to retrieve the data on the internal storage

uliwooly

Ok, so sending to Xperia care centre is not really an option right now since the closest one to me is at the other side of the country.

The phone looks like it has mostly dried out (the droplets/condensation on the inside of the camera lenses are almost gone) so I plugged it into the wall charger this morning and it started doing its vibrating-3-times thing again.

I left it charging for half an hour or so and during this time the red indicator light was flashing once and then thrice in quick succession - like oooonn on on on, oooonn on on on, etc. After a while I tried pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons for about 10 secs. (a tip I read elsewhere). Nothing happened. I tried the power and vol up buttons. Again, nothing. Tried power button only.... still nothing. The phone kept vibrating 3 times throughout this. I unplugged the phone to move it to a different power outlet and when I plugged it back in the red indicator light came on briefly but is now off and it is not vibrating anymore so I'm not sure if it is still charging or if I've fried something inside!!

Any ideas?

- Niall

This is most likely hardware related (water damage) there's no other way around it, other than to send it
