File Protected. Cannot Send

I noticed this morning that some of my most recent music downloaded was missing from my phone. Upon further investigation I noticed that the album viewer on my home screen (that you can just quickly use to scroll through photos instead of opening the actual album) was all greyed out like there were no images.

When I open the actual photo folder, my photos are there but all videos are missing. When I selected an image to send via text, a message pops up saying "Protected File. Cannot Send". So I can see the pictures, but cannot send them.

If I take a screeenshot of said image, I am able to send the screenshot since I'm assuming it's not protected.

What would all of a sudden cause these files to be protected?

I am using a Xperia Z1

Those files were sent/received through whatsapp correct? if they were then you should contact Whatsapp regarding this.
