The 3.5 mm audio jack is protected by a membrane on the inside. Therefore, no cover is needed to protect this part.

I've only recently bought a z3 tablet and can't find any mention of the headphone socket having a cover to ensure it is waterproof, the USB and memory card ports both have a physical cover, is it safe for water to enter the headphone socket, thanks in advance.

Hello, Yes this socket is supposed to be waterproof. But I strongly advise by experience not to trust your tablet. At least not to trust what is advertised about it. I experienced myself last summer in a pool, no more than 2 minutes in 10 cm of water. result: 69€ to get it dried quickly. The store Manager confirmed I wasn't the first one. Look at forums, you will notice than there are many complains and Sony never takes this case under warranty.

So at your risk. My Z3 compact phone didn't have any problem in the same conditions, but I won't try again.
