Since lollipop update I've noticed my phone gets hotter than it used too. Especially using video calling or even YouTube. I think it's software related. poorly optimised
I've had my Xperia z3 for just over a month. When I'm on it the temperature rapidly rises from 29C to 46C. The screen feels really hot. I try not to run too many apps at the same time. It was repaired only a few weeks ago but it still gets very hot. Especially when using the camera, playing games or just being on facebook. My partner has the same phone and it never gets hot.
Is this normal? Or does my phone need repair yet again?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kittykatastrophe, welcome to the community!

I advise running a software repair on the handset to see if that resovles the issue as it is very likely ro. The process removes & re-installs the operating system, re-installing the latest android version. This may resolve the issue for you mr_xzibit as you say the issue occurred after updating. Please try the following steps and report back.

Firstly download PC Companion.

Note: a software repair will delete all user data, to back up your phone using PC Companion:
1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows
computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
(Exactly what contents will be backed up may differ
depending on phone model.
You can view detailed information about this as you follow
the steps in the Backup & Restore wizard).

Running the software repair on PC Companion:
1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps

I do hope this helps. Keep us updated

Hello @kittykatastrophe the overheating issue you are having is most likely software related, but a good chance that the phone is malfunctioning somewhere in the hardware. Is it the battery temp that gets to 46c or the processors? Is the bottom of the phone more hot than the top near the camera? This issue happens to me aswell since 5.1.1 the phone gets really hot quickly which is something it never did before I updated to lollipop. I couldn't believe the day I started getting the overheating message just from snapping a few pics using "superior auto mode" so disappointed that I can't use my phone the way it was intended to be used anymore. And btw a repair using pcc will almost always do nothing. Even before you set your phone up again with Google and have no apps downloaded it still performs the same way.

Hi @ Clp, even I have a Z3 dual sim, the phone near the camera heats up rapidly when outdoors with ambient temperatures in and around 40deg and some time mid 40s in the middle east and I am able to use the camera only for a couple of shots after which it turns off, its very irritating, seems sony has many flaws in the package itself, I have a samsung with the same lollipop but have no issues on it, this has to do with the processor I guess.

Pls provide a resolution on line rather than wait for a month for a update version like in the case of the USSD issue, I dont have other issues as listed in the forums however If I have to cross my fingers and use the phone, then it seems Sony has stumbled big time on this model.

Dear Sophia,

I have noted that most of the support members dont seem to have an answer to the Z3 dual overheating issue, even your suggestion is of no use since it seems to be the CPU issue and that too just during plain camera operation and Sony is not helping without any solution to this specific problem, their update response time is too slow.

I have updated to .232 but no resolution to the over heating problem.

For heating problems you can use stamina mode on your z3 with *lower performance*(mode) . It will help you by puttin on sleep 1-2 cpus . Keep us up to date and good luck
