Message Error Code

Hi Guys,

Always when I receive a message (SMS) I get this error code:

"brMessage onReceive () - Attempt to invoke virtual method 'boolean
java.lang.String.equals(java.lang.Object)' on a null object reference"

I have an Z2 and my boyfriend has the Z3 compact and gets the same error - he tried to reset the phone and the error still ocurred..

Are you using the stock messaging app? this happens when using other apps for messaging or if you have other apps open which are causing a conflict

Nope - its the normal SMS app which was on the phone - about 5 months it worked and since 3 to 4 weeks this error occures

Shortly after the update to android 5.0 where other bugs were solved it occurred for the first time

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the messaging app.

I recommend that you take a backup of your messages in case you have messages you want to save. You can do that using the preinstalled app Backup and restore or with PC Companion.

Then download this app and delete all SMS/MMS using it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.eraser

After this, restart the phone and restore the backup and see if the issue remains.

This happens with any message? Not from a specific number or person?

Hey, any resolution with this? I'm having the same problem, getting that message popping up for every single SMS text I get since the software upgrade. It's really annoying!

The issue is still forwarded internally for investigation so i'm afraid i don't have any solution for you yet. As soon as i have more information about it i will let you know.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with logs from your phones as it may help us find why you're getting this error?

If this is something you'd be willing to provide you can take logs this way:

1. Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number

2. Go back and select Developer options. Turn on "USB debugging"

3. Restart the phone

4. Send an SMS to the phone so you see the error message

5. Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report". When the report is ready you'll get a notification that you can tap and share to Google Drive. Send me a private message here on the forum with a link to it.

6. Turn off the setting that was turned on in step 2.

I tried to send you the link in a private message but the system won't let me send the message - it marks the "send to" line as not valid - very confusing because the other times it worked

I have this problem too. And some other with the newest actualization 5.1

I had big problem with calling. Sometimes if I call i wasn't hear on second site. I must restart phone. I had this problem only if I call somebody. If somebody call me, always work fine.

But excuse me, I reinstall to older version (5.0.2) so I think I can not help you more.

That's sounds very strange. As long as you don't change anything in the "Send to" field you should be able to send me a PM with a link to drive.

I'll send you a private messages with an email address you can share them to instead.
