No network signal on Xperia L

Just got an Xperia L from my network provider. I placed my sim in it but there is no network signal at all. I put my sim back in my old phone and checked for network signal and there was signal. So it's really a problem with the phone. Do I need to check the network settings? I've tried searching for available networks and the phone detects my provider. But it does not want to connect whether I choose connect automatically or choose manually. Please help. Thanks.

Go to settings-network and set it on GSM only,it should get 2G signal almost anywhere. If not, take the phone back and see what is wrong.

Hi kumberel,

Try different sim card(s) in the handset to see if they work, if they do not then there may be an issue with the sim card reader. If another sim card works in the handset it may just be the sim you are currently using with the problem.

If no sim cards are recognized, run a repair like @Uliwooly suggested and if it doesn't resolve anything - contact Sony Xperia Customer Care in your region.
