If no sim cards are being recognized by the device and the factory data reset hasn't helped, you could try running a software repair using PC Companion to see if that resolves the issue. If it does not, it seems more like an issue with the sim card reader - in that case just click the link in my signature for the contact details of your local Sony Xperia Customer Care team.

Hi Folks,

Before I send my phone off to Sony repair centre I thought I would ask here for help.

My Sony Xperia Z1 stopped making and receiving calls and texts about four weeks ago.

I am on T-Mobile in the UK.

If I remove the sim card and put it in another phone it connects no problem, ( I did this with a Samsung Note 2 and a Motorola Moto-G).

If I put another sim in the Sony Z1 ( it is unlocked ) it does not connect to the network.

In the settings menu on the Z1 where you can select the network providers available there are none.

If I put the sim in the Samsung I get the options of T-Mobile / Orange / EE.

I have done a full factory reset but got the same results afterwards.

Is this a hardware issue that needs a repair? Or have I missed something?

If using a brand new SIM card or repairing the phone with Sony PC Companion solved your issue, that might be a hardware issue.

Got an email today 29th July.
My device is on its way back to me.
No indication of what was wrong with it or what repairs, if any, have been carried out.

Is this normal for Sony Repair centres?

I expected an email to say what problem had been found and how it would be repaired before it was shipped back.

Still, as long as it works on return I'll be happy with that.
