Alarm problems / Apps freezing since 5.1 update

Hi guys,

As above, since the update (via PC Companion) I've been having a lot of apps that I use frequently randomly freezing on me... - compared to them working fine under 5.0.2. Since the update I've noticed my handset is running a lot smoother, generally, doesn't get anywhere near as hot but doesn't have anywhere near as good battery life strangely; I'm lucky to get a day out of it since the update!

The worst thing though for me was my alarm this morning effectively locking up the phone! I got my alarm tone once then it must have locked up, but still continued vibrate - fortunately that woke me up. I had to force a shutdown to stop it vibrating! I tried a test alarm a couple of hours later and the same thing happens. To be fair, I've not done a system restore since I've had the phone so I'm thinking now's probably the time

Best way of backing up/restoring afterwards?
