m4 aqua dual automatic factory reset

I have a 2 month old M4 aqua dual. In the last three days, the phone has automatically factory resetted itself twice!! You can imagine how painful this has been since I did not anticipate such an issue and had failed to backup.

However, i remain very concerned about the auto factory reset problem. A couple of days before the first auto factory reset, I had got a message on the phone which said that the 'sd card' is damaged. The sd card (Strontium 8GB) was also new and purchased with the phone. After the second auto factory reset, I have now removed the sd card and will observe if the problem re-occurs.

Meanwhile, please do suggest why this problem occured and what can i do at my end to correct this. Do i need to get the phone replaced?

Does anyone has access to your Gmail? the reason I ask is because they can be using MyXperia or Android Device Manager and reset your phone.

If I was you, I would change the password, also does your phone has pin lock or pattern lock?

Yes. The phone has a pin lock.

Could that have caused the problem? I dont think the wrong password was entered by mistake. THe phone was lying on a table when it happened the second time.

My SD card also got wiped during the reset. Is that normal? If i remember correctly, on my earlier Samsung, the SD card did not get wiped during a factory reset (although i could be mistaken).

I also mentioned in my post that a few days before the auto reset, I got a message saying the SD card I was using was damaged. Not sure if that is the cause here. I have removed the SD card for now from the phone.

That could be malware, repair the phone with PCC, if possible with a different computer.

Welcome to the community

I would suggest running a software repair on the handset, give it a try to see .

Here's how to run the repair on PC Companion:

Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
Phone Software Update.
Start.
Repair Phone
Continue
Accept data removal
Next
Wait for prepare
Select Phone
Follow the connection steps

And Bridge for Mac:

Launch Bridge for MAC without the handset connected.
On the Main Window select "Xperia > Repair Xperia Device".
Ensure the phone is charged and select "Ok" in the following window.
Select Continue on the following page.
Wait until the initialising step is finished the continue as below.

6 . Select your model of phone from the list that appears

Follow the connection steps that appear, ensuring that you are holding the relevant button down before during and after the connection phase until the update/repair begins.

You will want to start these processes with the phone powered off and disconnected from the PC.

Will try the software repair. WIll this software repair erase all the data? And if yes, can i simply take a backup on PCC itself and restore later? Please advise.

PCC will delete everything on your phone, so aside of backing up with PCC, check my other suggestions.
