@DamianD: do you have the "S/O" next the version number of the OS in the diagnostic menu?

Have a look on my topic: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Tablet-Compact/What-does-s-o-mean/m-p/1009736#U1009736

But I'm not totaly convinced by the responses. An official response would be great.

@xavinux: I can understand that manufacturers need some delay to deploy update of an OS. But in our case, we have almost 5 months late compared to version 5.0 and now SONY released the 5.1! Even on the Swiss webpage it says that version 5.1 is available: http://support.sonymobile.com/ch-fr/xperiaz3tabletcompactwifi/software/

But we still don't have any official update...

WiFi only devices doesn't have a IMEI number, they have IDID numbers instead. Send me a PM with your IDID number and I can check for you if the device is a prototype.

If the device is a prototype you might not get the update as these devices are not intended for end users and doesn't work the same way as retail units.

I have PURCHASED this tablet on JAPAN, but I live in BRAZIL. I have read this might be the reason, that the tablet will only update if I am in JAPAN? That is probably wrong ... I hope.

Well, ok, I found out that the Japanese "thing" was a thing indeed ... only version still stuck with 4.4.4, that is very weird =x

Flashbooted to US, 5.0.2 working fine. I will never get it why specific regions can't get the update despite it working on their region (I can switch to japanese on 5.0.2 xD)

Thanks to Alexdon for making me aware that IDID's are not meant to be public

You have to do it manually using flashboot, which is not really easy for layman to do. If you make any mistakes, you might brick your phone (ok, you won't, flashbooting again with the correct firmware would fix it, but if you can't do it right the first time, might have problem on any number of times).

Also, note that this usually voids the warranty (in this case, since you are flashbooting without rooting and using an official Sony release, I THINK it doesn't, better wait for a support member to pitch in.

I don't know if it is ok to link to tutorials to flashboot here >.> anyway I did it with mine and it works wonders. But just so you know, there is little benefit to upgrading to lollipop other than some fancy visuals. No real new feature (new features are promissed mostly on Android M, the next version) other than some tweaks to notifications and the fact Sony opted to remove their personalized top bar in favour of the new Lollipop one, which is very similar to Sony's

Wow! More than 24 Hours and still nothing from support!!!!

I thought these forums were for us to speak to Sony and recieve help with specific problems.

Well this is not a chat, it should take 2~3 business day for an official response.

Anyway, you CAN move files to any extension SD or USB drive on KitKat, just the same as with Lolipop. I did that on 4.4.4 with easy, the caveat is: it must be with one of the file navigation tools that comes bundled with the device, any other app will get a "not allowed" message (that in Lolipop too).

For most (all?) Sony devices, the app that will allow you to do that is File Commander. Not the best app for that but does the job.

Reading FROM SD/UDB can be done by any app.

Today (3 business day, see? lol) Support answered my E-mail on the subject and, as I expected after finding out the Japan issue, they said they "cannot help me" because the device was bought in other country and "can contain different configurations" (no, it can't, all Z3 are the same, only software and carrier changes), and thus they can't help me update my device ...

Well, they could AT LEAST tell me to flashboot, but I guess they don't want to be blamed if I do it wrong and brick my device .... Save the lords of the internet \o/

I don't blame them ... this difference between countries is pure useless burocracy and they have to protect themselves =x luckly flashbooting is so easy nowadays, specially with special xperia line flashboots around >.>

p.s.: another cool change in lollipop: the keyboard selection is on the bottom bar, no longer on the top bar, which is easier ... I switch keyboards a lot =p

For me the same my IDID starts with 11. I bought my SGP612 (32Gbit) Wifi Only in Switzerland where I live. There was no update from 4.4.4 to Lolipop 5.0 or 5.1. I asked several times via email support, but there is a standard answer. The rollout takes time.... Now we are 5 months behind the rollout of Lolipop. I don't believe in this standard answer, because there was no 5.0 update for SGP612, but for SGP611 (16Gbit) it was available already in April. As we know that this is a Wifi only device without any network branding the rollout should come at the first wave. In my opinion we won't see any upgrades for unknown reasons for SGP612 for Swiss devices. I also checked the database from Xperifirm and it is clear that all countries had already a 5.0 update and almost all countries have the 5.1 updates which are available on the sony server for SGP612, but not for the Switzerland device.

I've exactly the same problem as you DamianD.

My SGP612 is still running Android 4.4.4 and I can't update it through OTA or PC Companion officially. I bought it in Switzerland, where I live too.

I'm very disapointed with SONY. I was thinking to buy 5 new SONY smartphones for my company but if they don't update their devices for Swiss customer, they can keep their marchandise.

Also, when I want to register my Tablet on the "My Support" from your website, it says that my IDID is not valid! Why!?!? (It starts with 11)

I expect some explications please.
