Hi All,

Since upgrading to lollipop around 2 weeks ago on my Z1 compact, my battery life has been terrible. 2 days after the update and frustrated with battery life, I connected to the PC companion software ready to factory reset, to find another update, which has stopped the Facebook app destroying my battery, and actually seemed to fix my battery issue as I went back to getting 2 days out of a charge. Sadly this only lasted not even a week.

The last two days have been the worst. After work yesterday it ran completely flat (no warning - and phone barely used). I charged it up to 100%, disconnected the charger, and went to sleep. I woke up in the morning to 8% battery - the phone was IDLE. The next charge, my phone told me it had fullly charged, but when I disconnected the charger, it was only at 96%. It took another half an hour to reach 100%, which was at 1130am. By the time I got home at 630pm, my battery was down to 35%. It is now almost flat and I am going to have to charge it for the 3rd time in 24 hours.

Checking battery usage, Android OS, Android System, Telstra (carrier), and Setup Wizard are all excessively draining the battery (the Android OS is the worst one with battery usage at 30%). It won't let me disable any of these, I can force stop only the Telstra one but it starts again straight away.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am so frustrated by this, and my phone is unusable at the moment.

**posted in the wrong forum initally, sorry**

No, re-install will not always solve the problem.

I upgraded z1c from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 the very minute this new firmware came out and I was very satisfied. Three weeks ago I upgraded the same phone to 5.1.1 and noticed obvious battery drain. I did a factory reset, re-installed the update, did another factory reset, and another factory reset (so, I did it twice after re-install), and I'm still facing the battery drain problem. It is not so severe as with some other people, but it is noticeable. For instance, I charge my z1c to 100% in the evening, set the alarm for the morning wakeup and switch phone to the airplane mode. Still 100% of the battery. In the morning I could see that battery dropped steeply to 90%. After I logged in to my mobile network the battery started to drop a bit slower but still faster than with Android 5.0.2. Then I erased PS4 application and Facebook and was happy to see that the battery usage improved. Alas! After a day or two, there was again another steep drop in battery usage. The battery usage graph in the phone settings doesn't give me much information about details of battery usage.

When compared to problems other z1c users have, my problem is not so big, but it is big enough for me to get frustrated.

I turned almost everything off when I'm not using it (wifi, 3g, 4g, BT etc.) except for the screen brightness because I can't see a thing on the screen when in the direct sunlight.

Today I haven't played with the phone much. In this picture (I hope you can see it), there are few sudden drops in the battery capacity. The first one from 100% do almost 90% is unprovoked. I did nothing. My phone was sitting on the table for the whole night.

The text in the picture is written in the Croatian language, but you can still understand what is happening.

I even thought about battery replacement in the service center, but, instead I'll save that money for another new mobile phone. Probably new Lumia with Win 10. I'm done with Android and its "improvements of the user experience".

P.S. Just look at the post sent on June 25, 2015 by user "mkte....@gmail.com" with the screenshots attached. The address is: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558. It looks almost the same as my problem.

Hi @XperiaNow

After a system update, it is important to wait and restart the device regularly. The battery life should be normal after 1 week. See this topic too: /t5/Xperia-Z2/Battery-drains-faster-with-Lollipop/m-p/957521#M24272

Sign me up to the failing Z1 Battery crowd.

My Z1 updated itself to lollipop in the Spring when I went to the USA and was using an American SIM. It was immediately much slower than KitKat, but otherwise ok.

Eventually another update followed me to the UK a few weeks back. My phone is much faster again, but the battery life is now pitiful.

I got up about an hour ago, checked the time once or twice and spent 10 minutes on Facebook and my battery is down to 87%.

A phone that used to go 2 days with moderately heavy use when i bought it in May 2014, can now barely make it through the end of a working day.

One thing that isn't helping is that even minor tasks like browsing the web heat the phone up now. I can see the battery disappearing with every minute I am looking at a web page. It's basically the same as the 3 year old htc desire i used to have.

I can see complaints bout this all over the web but no one had a fix?

This is abysmal. I just turned my phone on to check the battery status which took all of 45 seconds, which required another 3% of battery.

This device is not even 16 months old and now has half the battery life of my wife's Moto G.

I'll try resetting the, once, and if that doesn't work it's going back for warranty repair.

What did they come up with.

This morning as soon as I unplugged from charge the battery dropped to 99%. Then another 9% rapidly disappeared. The only thing the inbuilt battery monitor reported as using power was Android OS, which is always the biggest drainer now. The rest went somewhere, either its a fault or the power is being taken by something else.

Oh well, time to bite the bullet and reset it all.

I did three things:

1.) Yesterday I force stopped Google play, deleted its data and managed to uninstall the latest version (I think it was 5.9.12). So I was left with older version of Google play and actually Google play disappeared from the list of installed applications as well as its icon on the main screen. Later on I re-installed Google play 5.9.12.

2.) At approx. 62% of the battery I turned the phone off and left it on its charger till morning.

3.) In the morning I installed one of many available battery monitors to see what is eating the battery. I didn't touch the phone for most of the day with only short instant messaging over wifi and mobile data connection to see what is eating the battery in almost idle state of the phone. Now it is evening and I still have 93%.

Here is the picture:

As you can see, "Phone radio" is active all the time and is using most of the battery.

I'll keep monitoring the situation during the working week when I use mobile phone far more extensively.

There are also other battery monitors available which list every process and application that uses battery.

Interesting. I am trying a reset at the moment, but the PC Companion backup tool keeps failing...

I didn't use backup tool of any kind. I always backup manually important data, and don't mind setting applications again from scratch once I reset (factory reset) the phone or re-install the update via PC Companion.

I did another thing. I turned on auto brigtness control and manually increased brightness almost to the max while auto control is still active. By doing that I allow software to control the brightness according to user's environment while the screen is not so dark as I manually increased the brigthness. It sounds silly, but that's the way it is. Reducing brightness is often recommended as a remedy for battery drain.

Well that was a roller coaster ride. After spending a long time with failed backups I eventually got a limited one to work. Then I set about repairing the installation. Which failed too, leaving my phone unable to turn on properly and crashing Windows 10 every time I started it.

Through experimenting with plugging and unplugging things at various points I eventually got the PCC thing to start up and actually reinstalled the software.

The phone is much better overall now, and battery drain seems to be giving me about 4min 30 secs for each 1% of battery while browsing. Its also not getting hot.

I dont think this is as good as it used to be, but I'll take it.

Today I used Google play again to update some installed application. I also used mobile data, so I'll see if it makes a difference or not. Last two days were great, the battery was behaving good.
