Hello,

I need an infrared port to connect my Z3 Compact to a scuba diving computer.

I know there is no IRDA port on the telephone, but I have 2 adapters : one USB adapter and one micro-usb one.

When I try to connect the micro-usb adapter directly on the phone, nothing happens (though it is supposed to be done for that purpose).

To connect the other one, I need a usb/micro-usb adapter I don't have yet.

But do I need something else ? a driver for example ? (I can't find any user guide for my adapter, except a few lines in chineese on its very small documentation).

Has someone a idea ?

Thanks a lot !

ps : please excuse my poor english, which is not my mothertongue...

You could try a OTG cable but still it may not work due to incompatibility

hello,

Thanks for your answer.

I'll try this, but I have to buy an OTG cable. I'll tell you if it works.

But I still am disapointed that my IRDA key with micro usb port does not work...

There are two things that must happen to IRda key work on your phone:

1) Micro USB connector must be OTG connector (you can check in manual), or in case of another adapter - you need Micro USB-OTG cable. You can check if cable works by using USB pendrive (FAT32)

2) Android operating system must have support for chipset used in this particular IRda adapter

If you meet both points you have a chance to use it.

hello,

Thanks for these explainations.

Concerning point 1. the IRDA device with micro-usb connector is supposed to be OTG :

http://tiqiaa.com/en/product.php#p2

Concerning point 2., well, I suppose this is exactly the problem : I have no driver, and the "user guide" given with the device is in cheneese...

I don't know what USB Pendrive is. How does it work ?

Thanks.

I meant usb thumb drive. A storage device. Just to check otg functionality. You can also test it with USB mouse.

hello,

Well, I have tested my IR key with another application, and it works without any problem. So, I believe OTG fonctionnality works well.

But it looks like the it is just an IR transmitter to be used as TV remote control : the output works well, but not the input.

Then, to interface the Xperia Z3 with a diving computer, I must find another IR transmitter, witch works in both ways, input and output.
