Text app stop working after lollipop update

I have a Z3 compact and just updated to Lollipop. After the update i cant send or receive text messages. Also all my old texts (33.000+) wont show. What to do?

That's quite a bit of texts, which slow down your phone, I haven't received the update just yet, but sometimes when it's a major update the texts and call logs are deleted.

What do you see when you open the messaging app?

What if you install another messaging app, like Messenger by Google

you might want to consider backing up your texts with Gmail so you can access them anywhere, instead of storing them on your phone.

Got it working now. But is there any way to storage the texts on the SD-card instead!

As standard, it's not possible to store the text messages on the SD-card. And unfortunately, I'm not familiar with any kind of application which can do this (more than apps that may backup/restore data).

Just to add, if you have a lot of text messages, it can take a longer time for the phone to index all of them.

If you use whatsapp you can create backups on your SD card but you shouldn't stored so many texts on your phone, what are the odds you are going to go back and read them all, not to mention that it will slow down your messaging app and phone.

Anyone got a solution? Would like to try and reinstall the app but since it's native that doesn't seem possible? Help would be very appreciated

Mine works fine.

Lollipop flash preserved my settings, apps and data (including messaging).

Could it be that you need to run again the Internet Settings from your operator (see Settings - More) so that SMSC and MMSC settings match them ?

Got it working by downloading another app (Textra) to do the config part since native just crashed. After that was done texting worked on both apps. Still something that should be examined... and fixed!

Edit: I did redownload the internet settings before insstalling the other text app, didn't work. No not even with restarts and retries.

I'm going back to iPhone. Have been too much trouble these past few months.. Never had any problems like these with Apple.

I'm having the same problem with my Xperia ZL. I installed Lollipop last night and can't send or receive texts and the messaging app freezes when opening. Textra doesn't seem to be able to set up and has been trying for a long time. Please help!

Hi, I downloaded the Textra app too as my text app also stopped working after the new update. The Textra app is working fine but my original text app still isn't working . Did your original text app just start working again in its own after you downloaded Textra?
