Standby Brightness-dimming issue

Okay so I'm facing their weird issue on my Z1c - the phone's screen goes all bright and then dims down to the original brightness levels when coming on from standby, randomly. Adaptive brightness is off and it is on the default 'White Balance' settings. Anyone else facing this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think it's related to adaptive brightness. So disable adaptive brightness and check again.

May you try and see if this happens also in safe mode?

/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/td-p/348008/jump-to/first-unread-message

It doesn't happen regularly, but randomly, so how would safe mode help? I'd have to remain on safe mode until it actually happens and there are 50/50 chances of it happening on safe mode which means I might have to wait forever. Any other solution? It this software related or hardware? I doubt it's hardware because didn't happen on the .242 firmware.

That's why I asked you to try on safe mode, if an app is causing this then it will not happen on Safe mode and we'll conclude that it's a 3rd party app. If you wanna exclude all softwate doubts then I'd suggest that you do a PC Companion phone repair, this will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory. Don't forget to back up your data before you proceed.

Open PC companion -> Support zone -> Phone/tablet software update -> Repair my phone/tablet (blue link style). Follow the steps given, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

Brightness problem-screen is dim and it can't be changed

I have sony xperia z1 compact and it was working fine until a few days ago the brightness was really low and it won't change. I've tried to untick the auto-brightness but the problem is still the same, the screen is dark and I can barely see anything. When I manually adjust brightness, it is the same. I did a factory reset, tried to fix it with pc companion, I even upgraded it to android 5.0 and the problem won't go away. I also turned the safe mode on, but the screen is still dim. I ran the diagnostics test and it says that the display is working fine. What should I do?
