Hi all,

My problem is that a few hours after I boot my Xperia M4 Aqua, the GPS icon appears and is stuck at this position until I disable GPS completely or I restart the phone.

I'm starting to believe I have a defective unit, or is it something that can be solved easily?

Thanks for your help!

Of course I could try this, but as I said, it can take hours before the GPS icon appears after startup. Problem is then it is always stuck, even though GPS is not in use according to battery consumption chart.

It is there because your location serivce is on (in settings). Turn off the Location serivce under 'Settings', 'Location'.

If you want the location service to be on but do not want to see the icon, switch off the notification from the status bar under 'Settings', 'Personalization', 'Status bar icons', uncheck 'Location'. Your phone will still obtain your location, but without informing you at the status bar. Do set the Location service to be 'Battery saving' mode before doing this because leaving it at 'High accuracy' mode(using GPS sensor) will drain off your battery.

Location service is definitely on. However, the icon only appears when an app first uses it. It can be hours after a startup. Then the icon is always on.

I know I can remove the icon the way you mention it. However, it is not the icon itself that annoys me. It is that it indicates a GPS problem. It cannot turn off by itself... What you suggest is like removing the check engine light of a car. Of course it doesn't light, but there is still a problem...

I see what you meant. I personally feels that it is a software issue.

I tried on mine using Google Maps. It requested me to turn on location service and I allowed. after exiting the application, the Location Service is still on at High Accuracy, even after 5 mins in sleep mode. I.e. it do not auto turn off like yours.

For me, the workaround is to maually turn it off, until Sony finds a better way to auto turn it off.
