Using 3-ring 3.5mm headphones?

I have several headset with in-line microphones that have 3.5mm plugs with 3 rings. However when I connect them to my Z3 the audio still plays through the device speakers instead of the headset. Why is that and how do I resolve this issue?

I've read somewhere that the Z3 its only compatible with CTIA standard headphones, not OMTP

My z3 compact is having trouble with the audio jack, it keeps losing contact and restarts the app over and over with just a slight nudge. Any help? Tnx

I can clarify that the handset uses CTIA only, so make sure that you only purchase these types of headsets.
