Xperia Z3 waterproof?

I'm very disappointed because my Xperia Z3 is dead after soaking it in the beach. I think the marketing that Sony does is not true :((((((((

I'm sorry about what happened to your phone but who does that? who submerge an electronic in salt water?

In compliance with IP68, the Xperia Z3 is protected against the ingress of dust and is waterproof. Provided that all ports and covers are firmly closed, the phone is:

- dust tight

- protected against low-pressure jets of water from all practicable directions

- can be kept under 1.5 m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes

I did the same mistake with the original Xperia Z and washed it with soap and water, and got the power button non-functional.

Yes, the device is waterproof in fresh water upto 30 minutes in 1,5m of water. The IP68 is allowes to be kept in a chlorinated water for a short amount of time. Any longer use could corrode the seals. IP67 or lower isnt recommended to use in a chlorine water. The device shouldn't be dunked into any chemical liquid or salt water.

On the beach water is salty that means it could be your fault damaging the device. Tho if it was for a minute nothing really should happen so request Sony to do a vacuum test

I agree but I think Sony is too optimistic with its marketing about the Xperia Z3 tablet and smartphone. All the videos show these devices underwater. They don't warn about salt water. I'm not an engineer, I was naïf trusting in Sony publicity and did that mistake.

As Sony say on their Z3 product page:

*The Xperia Z3 is waterproof and protected against dust as long as you follow a few simple instructions: all ports and attached covers are firmly closed; you can’t take the phone deeper than 1.5 m of water and for longer than 30 minutes; and the water should be fresh water. Casual use in chlorinated pools is permitted provided the phone is rinsed in fresh water afterwards. No seawater and no salt water pools. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The phone has an Ingress Protection rating of IP65 and IP68. To see what this means and for more information see www.sonymobile.com/durability.

Same here mine died on seconds under tap water...right now its still with me as i have not time to visit service center too bad their flagship is advertised as waterproof and has light bleeding and not sealed properly shame on them...

Some people tell me as I were stupid: "oh you can't soak your smartphone into salt water". But if you buy a waterproof watch it means that you can swim into the sea with it. It's the same for a Xperia Z3, isn't it?

No one would call you stupid for putting your phone in salt water, I told you I did the same mistake and washed my old Xperia Z with soap and got it broken, but when I went to service and they told me that they found soap residue in the phone, I admitted my mistake.

We sould research our gadgets before risking them to be broken. We should not try wrong stuff and then blame the manufacturer who stated clearly that salt water is a no no. Sadly, we learn in the hard way.

And no you can't compare a Casio watch that has 150m water proof rating to a mobile device that has IP68 rating. And Casio would tell you that their watch can be used in salt water, and Sony also told that their mobile CAN'T be used in salt water. It's fair and straight situation.
