Hey guys.

I live in Sweden where the z4 tab has been in stores for some time now and I like the z4 very much but.... I'm having some WiFi problems. I get connection errors and slow response time and poor speed. Anyone else that's experiencing the same thing or is tab broken?

The battery time is not that impressive, but I'm only on my second cycle so maybe it will improve.

Best regards

Daniel

Hello uliwooly! Thanks for helping out.

Is that a known problem that updates doesn't work properly on Sony devices? (first Sony device for me)

Update: I tried static ip as the troubleshooting guide suggested and the difference was huge!

No connection drops or low speeds this far. Hope that it continues this way!

I have an Asus (5GHz) router for future reference.

I'm having the same problem. Have changed to static ip in my router but no change. All my other devices are functioning at 100%. Will try a software repair, if that won't work I'm selling this piece of crap and getting an iPad. The Sony support was not much help. Their solution was to uninstall one app at a time to see which one is the problem. With over 100 apps solve the issue Sony! We're are many having the same problem.

So I just made a software repair using companion. DIDN'T HELP A BIT! So far has not one suggested fix from Sony helped. They need to address this issue. Educate their supportstaff, test their hardware/software and develop a fix for this issue asap. I'm really dissappointed at Sony so far.

At home I'm not using a cover for the Z4.

I recognize that the tablet has issues with WiFi connection when I lay it flat on a wooden table at home. As soon as I hold it upright or put it upright into the keyboard the connection is good. This applies to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. On a glass table at home I don't have this issue.

Maybe the problem lays in the flat design of the tablet. When the attenna is close to a slow conductive medium like the wooden table the signal gets a bad coupling.

Another thing I recognized: nowadays in 2.4 GHz there are more than 12 other WiFi SSIDs in close range, visible in the Z4. Maybe this is also bringing the connection down. On the 5 GHz I'm the only one in proximity. But the connectivity through more than one wall is horrible on 5 GHz. Not sure if this only a problem of my Z4. With my mobile phone (non-Sony) I have in some rooms good connection on 5GHz, in others not. But with Z4 I have to be more or less in visible range to the router when using 5 GHz.

One more recommendation I just got from a colleague: I haven't tried myself, but will do and will give feedback.

May routers support WiFi 802.11 a,b,g,n,ac. Some routers allow disabling the older protocols to increase stability. Running on 802.11 n+ac should work for most not-to-old devices. Some IoT (read about a Withings Scale) maybe still require 802.11a. Probably this helps...?!?
