Contacts not syncing after update

I just updated my Xperia Z3 Compact to the latest software update and all of my contacts have disappeared.

All my contacts were syncing via my hotmail account and now after getting the most recent update for my phone all my contacts have gone.

I have checked to ensure my contacts are still syncing from my email and there are no filters set.

I have checked my contacts saved in my email account and they are still all there. There must be a problem with syncing my contacts from my email to my phone. Help please!

what if you download the outlook app from the playstore then try again?]

How would I go about syncing my contacts from the app? Or should it just work?

I have downloaded the app, signed in and there is no differience.

Open the phonebook > menu > filter > do you see outlook?
