Files on SD Card deleted when i restart phone

Hello,

I have got major problem with SD card usage. To cut the story short, it is not usable! Nothing can be copied or moved to sd card, all files got deleted as soon as I restart the device. Curently, I am running Lollipop, but there was the same problem on Kitkat.

I am stuck with 11 gigabytes of internal memory and unusable sd card.

I have had the device rooted, but non of the fixes found on XDA forums works.

Please, If you have any advice or solution, post it for the sake of all of us who are having the same problem.

That sounds strange. Do you mean that all files on the SD card are deleted when you restart the phone or specific files/folder?

Have you checked the SD card using a PC and a test software like H2testw so that you don't have a fake or broken SD card?

When you say rooted, do you mean that you have a custom rom in it? Have you modified any of the system files?

The card is fine, checked multiple times. Only the files and folders that were previously copied were deleted after restart. Everything else stays the same. Even after formatting with PC, it seems as nothing happened.

No, just the root access is allowed, I didn't put any customisations. I did modify platform.xml, trying to add write permission, but the same problem remained.

What app are you using to copy files to the SD card?

What happens if you set the camera to save pictures on the SD card, take a picture and restart the phone? Is that picture deleted?

What happens if you move a file to the SD card using the preinstalled File Commander and then restart the phone? Is that file deleted?

With Lollipop, 3:rd party apps can write to any folder on the SD card but the app must support this feature in Lollipop. You will be asked by Android to which level the app should have access and there you can select the root of the SD.

I have been using preinstalled file manager to copy files from internal storage to SD card. For copying from PC, superbeam was used.

There is one detail I forgot to mention. Before modifying platform.xml, SD card was completely useless. After modification was done, sd card appears to be working just fine, but only for the first 10-15 minutes after powering the device on. That is when I managed to copy some of the files on SD storage. If you use the camera app, photos will be saved on sd card, but after mentioned 10-15 minutes, the message "could not save" appears.

However, all data that was somehow put on SD card is deleted everytime the device turns off.

I recommend that you try to perform a repair of the phones software using PC Companion in that case. I can't say for sure but i suspect this is related to the modification you made to the phones software.

Please note that a software repair will delete all data in your phone.

Ok, I will leave that as an option. When I returun everything to its stock settings, do you belive that sd card writing permissin problem will be fixed?

That's strange.

Did you restore any backup or download any apps after the software repair?

Have you tested this with another SD card?

Hi There,

I am having the same problem. When the camera saves the photos to SD card, the phone deletes them on restart. Prior to this phone was working fine. Have tried to track down photos using PC companion, none found.

Most infuriating as battery is suddenly running flat causing frequent shutdowns therefore loss of photos. Until I worked out that photos saved to internal memory seem to be unaffected - so now saving there. Music files do not appear to be affected.

Do you recommend a new SD card? or is there anything else I can try?

The sd card might be broken, try otherone, or test card on pc with program, it can be found on xda or via google search (win or mac ver. Not google play) I recommend SanDisc Ultra or Sony cards but sony's are a bit more expensive with same parameters as SanDisk's.
