PC Companion: Sorry! Only Sony Ericsson phones are supported.

I have an Xperia D2303 M2.

I did a factory settings reset. Seems OK.

I installed Sony PC Companion
It updated to the latest version.

I have Windows 8 64bit. When I plug it into my PC, I hear the USB connection sound. But I can't see my Xperia in the file explorer.

I then try to connect Sony PC Companion to my Xperia.
PC Companion says "Sorry! Only Sony Ericsson phones are supported."

That makes me sad. It's like a mother rejecting her baby.

What a crazy analogy - Try making sure your drivers are installed and also you may have to run Pc Companion in compatibility mode as Windows 7 - So blame Microsoft and their problematic inability to driver sign using Windows 8/8.1

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

It sounds like your computer doesn't have any support for MTP which your Windows version should have.

Do you have a N or KN version of Windows (without Windows Media Player)? If so, download and install this package: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40744

Hi Richard, I have Windows 8 on a Toshiba laptop. I upgraded to Win 8.1 once, but it did not function at all.

I still have PTSD from that experience.

I downloaded Windows6.2-KB2703761-x64.msu

When I launch, it says:

Installer independent from Windows Update

The Update Is Not Applicable To Your Computer

(Actually, I have Spanish language Windows, so it really says

Instalador independiente de Windows Update

La actualizacion no es aplicable al equipo.)

Is there a workaround?

Windows6.2-KB2703761-x64.msu is the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Win8.

I paid MS $150, now I have Windows Media Center !

But I still see.

PC Companion was not able to connect to the phone / tablet. Please disconnect and connect again.

I disconnected / reconnected many times. Same message.

You don't need Windows Media Center to connect the phone to your PC. Support for MTP-mode is included in Windows Vista and later and with Windows XP or if you have a version of Windows without Windows Media Player all you need is to download and install the Windows Media Player.

What happens if you connect your phone to another PC? Does the same thing happen there?

After I had problem with another USB device, I decided the problem was in my Windows.

I had to reinstall Windows, but then it was fixed.
