My SOny Xperia Z1 isn't charging or booting.

Last night I didn't get to charge my device and slept with 13% of battery remaining and when I wake up and put my phone to charge, I checked it out after half an hour and it neither showed any charging indication nor did it boot. After some time the red LED in the earpiece started glowing dimly but the phone still wasn't charging or booting. I'm using Sony's default USB cable and powerbrick for my device. I also tried some other cables and chargers but the result was all same. I also connected my phone to my PC but simply didn't get detected so I couldn't flash Sony's ROM again. It's not even getting into Fastboot mode. PC companion won't work until my PC detects the phone in Fastboot mode. Help! (Recovery isn't working indeed.)

I bought my Xperia Z1 during the end of November in 2013 and I have got this issue last week. My phone was discharged late night as it was left with few amount of power remaining in it and next in the morning when I tried to charge and start it, it didn't respond and it wasn't detected on any PC either. And recently I was advised to visit a near by service center and I did but when I told them my problem they just told that it can't get repaired and if I want a replacement I have to pay 80% of the phone's MRP. That's insane. Just because my warranty period got over I don't get any worth of my device. And being a manufacturing defect or whatever for no fault of mine I can't get to use my phone again. Too disappointed by Sony's poilcy. What's the use of buying a 700$ smartphone if you can't get service. Probably it was my last Sony Xperia device.

Hi, sorry to hear about this but as it seems to be out of warranty......did they not offer to look/repair your phone at your cost rather than you getting a new one

You could try visiting a 3rd party repair shop....would probably work out a lot cheaper, strange tho that you cant get the phone to connect to your PC

Yes, that's what is bothering me. I could have flashed the ROM again and tried if the fastboot mode would have worked.

Have a look thru this....there is a section on getting your phone restarted if it wont boot up normally, i wouldnt give up on it yet.....try a few of the things on the link & keep us up to date :smileysmileythumbsup:

I've ordered a magnetic charging cable as it click me that Sony phones have magnetic charging. Let's wait for a while till I try it.

Also thought warranty was 2 years. I had the same issue recently, (bought the thing in october 2013) and got it through service on warranty. Unfortunately, it wouldn't connect to networks after the "servicing" (full thread here). I assume they opened the phone and charged the battery manually, and possibly some antenna cable or whatever was dislocated in the process.

Anyways - if you don't get it on warranty or in a cheap repair shop, I'd buy a separate battery on ebay (15 USD from china, like this) and try to set it in the phone. Disassembling is shown here and surely on more websites. Worth a try, watch MavGyver beforehand to get "in the mood".

Edit: I thing I read somewhere that the phone needs a minimum of battery to start a charger demon service, so with a totally flat battery, the service won't start and the phone not charge, therefore my scribbling above about changing the battery.

Getting mine fixed under Warranty, also bought in Oct 2013, sent to Sony Repair Centre (SBE) and just waiting for return, hopefully I won't have the no network issues you had! :smileysmileythumbsup:

The magnetic charging didn't work either. Taking it to a 3rd party repair shop. There is a video on youtube on how to remove the back panel and charge the battery manually. When a Z1's battery goes down to no charge(not even a little back-up), you are going to face this problem.

UPDATE: Many people suggested to use laptops, external battery chargers, mangnetic charging, etc. But nothing seems to work. Maybe I'll try to buy an OEM battery and open up the phone and replace it. The phone doesn't feel worthy to me now. I tried every possible bet on it but it doesn't seem to work. If anyone resolves this issue please reply! RIP Z1

DISCLAIMER: If you live in India, don't expect any Service from Sony Service Centers after 1 year of Warrenty period. Choose Wisely.

On January 1,2015 my phone drained to 0% battery and my battery didn't charge so I tried all Sony Support trick to make it work but it failed. Then I took it Sony Service center but they told that they never heard of this issue on Xperia Z1 and gave me a lame deal of paying 80% of Xperia Z1's MSRP in order to get it replaced but when I looked for the phone online it was already selling at 70% of its price so it was completely useless. Then I ordered an OEM replacement battery from eBay for my phone and replaced it. Still the same **bleep** red light blinks for a while and then stops. It doesn't even charge the new battery. Finally its time to give up on it.

P.S. ;- TELL ME A SOLUTION THAT I DON'T KNOW AS I HAVE TRIED EACH AND EVERY THING FROM CONNECTING IT TO THE COMPUTER TO HOLDING THE VOLUME KEY AND POWER BUTTON FOR 10 SECONDS.
