topic WATERPROOF FAIL in XPERIA archive

To whom it may concern,

I am hereby posting this message with regards to both my Sony devices, i.e. The Sony Xperia V LTE and my most recent, The Sony Z3 Compact respectively.

I upgraded to the Sony Xperia V LTE Smartphone just over a year ago (2013/14) and was excited that it was rated as the highest 'water-resistant' mobile phone and this grabbed my attention. A Sony consultant assured me of this, but still I wasnt convinced. He then offered to test the phone in a glass of water to convince me that my upgrade was the smart choice. We tested it in store, in a glass of fresh water, ensuring that all ports are tightly sealed. Everything looked okay on the screen, but once I took it out, not even a minute later, the screen started to flicker, then suddenly went blank. We thought perhps it just switched off, but when I tried to switch it on, holding the power button, the device just vibrated but the screen stayed blank.

The repair for the device was rejected by the retailer and came back with negative reports.

Late last year (2014) I upgraded to the Sony Z3 Compact. Seeing advertisements all over regarding the phone's 'highest waterproof rating', I began doing some research regarding this and was rather impressed. The phone was able to take pictures and videos underwater, fresh water, for at least 30min at a time, for up to 1.5m. It could even be used in chlorinated water similarly, but rinsed with fresh water after. Being a bit skeptical, based ona previous bad experience, I again requested a test to be done in store and I was once again disappointed. All ports were closed.

Based on the above, I regret to say that Sony has been an utter disappointment with regards to their 'water-resistant' and even 'waterproof' phones and I hold them liable for the damage done to both devices. All prerequisites were followed in order for the devices to function properly under water, for a very brief moment, where it should be able to withstand the above for at least 30min at a time.

Please contact me with regards to the abovementioned, via:
