Hi,

No the Z1 Compact is 10months old - the Z3 Tablet I bought brand new yesterday. Sorry - dont think I made that clear - the problem is with the Z1C phone - no the tablet.

The problem is with with the Z1 Compact - I have emailed the support department of the retailer to enquire about repair options.

I think I will try the software repair, as I dont think it is a hardware issue - otherwise rebooting would not fix the problem?

Cheers!

On my Z1C I have noticed in the last few days that when I plug in eaphones, the sound still comes out of the speaker and not the headphones.

Sometimes, plugging and unplugging the earphone a few times fixes the problem, sometimes it does not.

However, rebooting the phone always fixes the problem - for a while at least anyway. But once I disconnect and reconnect the problem can occur again, until I reboot.

The fact that reboot fixes the problem suggests a software/firmware issue rather than hardware - does that make sense? Also, I dont recall ever having this problem before this most recent firmware upgrade which I only applied a few weeks ago.

I did a search on the forum and see someone else reported this too, but it was dated before the latest firmware release - which does not make sense to me.

Anyone else seen this since the latest firmware?

Thanks!

Contacted Sony Support who recommened a Software Repair - but also advised a backup as the repair wipes the memory.

Tried to backup but it failed after scanning the phone for several minutes because it is encrypted.

So, now I need to decrypt the phone first, then backup, then repair and then restore just on the off chance that the Software Repair will fix my problem.

And if that does not work, I will need to send the phone off for repair which will take 5-7 working days AFTER they receive the phone.

You could not make this up!!

I used to have a Samsung S3 which developed a fault, I took it to the local Samsung repair centre who fixed the phone within 24hrs, fitted a new SP and I had my phone back the next evening!

I just bought a Z3 Tablet yesterday evening - maybe I should just take it back and swap it for a Samsung Tab S??

Just checked - you are right - there is no decrypt option.

So much for 'Sony Tech Support' - they dont even know there own products!

That makes it even worse, I cannot backup the phone, will have to manually copy out files etc, and then hopefully the Google Sync will take care of the other important data.

Lol - you have to laugh.

Seriously, maybe I should just take my new Z3 Tablet back and buy a Samsung instead....

Hi Harryw66,

You could also try clearing the Smart Connect application, as this is the software that deals with the headphones and any device that gets connected to the product.

Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Smart Connect > Clear Data

Once done try using the headphones as per normal. You may also want to test alternative headphones, as this may be related to headphones directly.

let us know how you get on.

Thanks Jake,

I will give that a try - I must have forgot to tick the subscribe option so I did not see your replies.

I have been rebooting the phone to get round the problem as I did not fancy being without it for 7-10 days if I had to send of for repair.

Next time it happens I will try your suggestion and see what happens. Shame you support colleague I spoke to did not suggest that in the first place - her only solution was to do a Software Repair or post it in for physical repair.

Will let you know if your suggestion works for me.

Hi Jake,

I forgot about this because my phone was pretty stable for a few weeks after my post.

The earphone problem started happening again so I came back here and saw your post again.

I have just checked the phone and Smart Connect was actually Disabled.

So, should I Enable it and then clear app data next time it happens? Or given that it was Disabled all this time - should it even be a factor in this problem?

Thanks!
