n we please get a comment from Sony regarding the wifi drops with this device?

This is unacceptable for a flagship device. I posted a thread a few weeks back regarding this, and specifically asked for it not to be deleted, or merged with the 4.4.4 issues thread. A day later and the thread was missing. This is not specific to 4.4.4. This was an issue with 4.4.2 as well, and it still has not been fixed. I am not the only one with this issue. You can find others on here, and plenty of others on xda with the same issue, not to mention the number of people who don't take to the Internet to post bugs and issues with their phones.

Can someone from Sony please offer some helpful advice? Not the typical cut and paste response "boot into safe mode and try, then do a device repair via pcc if safe mode doesn't pin point the problem".

I've repaired my phone many times with pcc (in 4.4.2 and 4.4.4) to no avail. I've tried safe mode to no avail. I've flashed an ftf file via Flashtool to no avail. There is nothing more I can try. It is not a router issue as every other device connects fine to my router. It is not a hardware issue as my device connects fine to my parents wifi. My dad's z2 also has the same issue on my wifi network as well. Its a compatibility issue with the z2 and certain routers (or settings within the router) and nobody from Sony has been helpful to date. I've called Xperia care, and their technical support has been useless. I end up coaching and teaching them about the z2, and the features and settings on it.

Im very disappointed in Sony's after sales support (or lack of). I spent $700 Canadian on this device and get absolutely no support for it. Look around the forums, there's plenty of people saying the exact same thing (even with other issues). If Sony does not fix this issue with the next update, this will be my absolute last Sony product I ever buy. It's one thing to have horrible after sales support, but to have it while selling a flawed product is just plain unacceptable. Especially for this price.

I have compared settings between routers, and the only difference within the settings is the channel. My dad's is channel 3, mine is channel 6. I ran a wifi app on my phone and a wifi program on my pc to determine which channel is best for my home router. It takes into consideration all the other wifi signals around to find the channel with the least amount of interference. At my house, it recommended channel 11. When I choose channel 11, I get more wifi drops. When I chose channel 3, I get even more. Channel 6 seems to be the best but there is still wifi drops. My question is, why doesn't ANY other device have this issue with interfering channels? I've tried my old Samsung Captivate, Galaxy nexus, Galaxy s3, OnePlus one, and Asus transformer prime tablet, all with no issues. Yet my most expensive device ($700 z2) has issues. That is my problem!

So nothing from Sony yet? Very disappointed with Sony's support. They make a great product but my God their after sales support is horrendous. There are many users with this issue (I know there's a few threads on xda regarding this). The only thing that has helped slightly is disabling stamina mode, and changing wifi channels. But no matter what I do, I can't seem to completely fix it. Shame that cheap devices that cost a fraction of this device are more stable.

On a side note as well, why on earth did Sony remove the network name under the wifi icon in quick settings? Instead they just have it say wifi as if people don't know what the wifi icon looks like. Aosp shows the network you're connected to right under neath the icon which is the way it should be. Also when you long press a quick setting, it should launch directly into that settings interface, rather than a pop up that gives you one single option to choose from. Little things like this Sony really drops the ball on. I honestly think Sony needs to hire a "common sense specialist" to iron out some of these poorly implemented designs.

Well from what I gather out of all of this, the Sony Xperia z2 is not a good device for people who live in cities (due to other wifi signals interfering with a consumers home network). Maybe Sony should target their ads towards farmers and people who have large properties to ensure their neighbours networks don't interfere with their own.

Out of all the devices I've tested (listed above) mine and my dad's z2 are the only ones that have issues connecting to my home network. Neither of us have issues connecting to my dad's network as his neighbours are at least 100ft away. Wifi interference is the only logical answer to this issue. Very disappointed with Sony. I expect more from a $700 flagship device.

I have emailed Sony Xperia Care regarding this issue, and provided the link to this thread. It's still ongoing as they have replied twice, both with no solution. They have also clearly demonstrated that they didn't even read this thread, or take the time to understand the issue, or read the steps I have taken to troubleshoot or fix this issue. In the very first post of this thread, I confirmed that I performed many software repairs via PCC, all to no avail. Sony Xperia Care's second response was to perform a software repair via PCC - lol. I am documenting this on here, and keeping all email correspondance with Xperia Care regarding this issue.

Just to follow up with this issue. Xperia Care has again responded advising me to send my device in for repairs. This is quite unbelievable. They expect me to go over 2 weeks without a phone, just so they can come back and conclude that there is nothing wrong with my device? I've already told them it is not a hardware defect issue. If it was, I would have this issue on ALL wireless networks.

I think what I will do is wait for the android lollipop update, if that doesn't fix it, I will buy a cheap backup phone, and send the device into their repair centre. I will also attach an email with it telling them that I have already confirmed it's not a defective piece of hardware, and that I'm only doing this to prove it to them. I will then receive my phone back in the same condition (possibly data wiped lol), and provide all documentation to the ceo of Sony Canada. I will explain to him that this is one of the reasons why Sony is failing in the phone market.. Xperia Care is a complete joke. They do not read or try to fully understand the problem. They just say "software repair via pcc, if that doesn't work, send it in for repairs". Since that is the case, Sony may as well abandon their Xperia Care department entirely, and send automated emails advising of the steps to troubleshoot your problem on your own. They could save a lot of money by closing their incompetent, useless, money draining Xperia Care department. Very disappointed in Sony once again. Hopefully someone who actually cares and has power within this company reads this and does something about it.

Hi,

Both my wife and I have a Z2 and after the update to 5.0.2 we both had issues with wifi. I first discovered it when I was out of reach from the 4G/3G network.

I searched the Internet, rebooted the router etc and eventually I did a reset of my Z2 with PC Companion. Still no solution..

During this time my Samsung Tablet was working fine via Wifi from the same place in the building.

This evening I found a way to "fix" the problem and I can recreate the problem every time on both my Z2 and my wifes Z2.

If Bluetooth is on, the wifi trough put is almost every time zero / time out, sometimes 1mbit/s. With bluetooth off, through put 50 mbit/s every time and I'm standing in the same place. I have done this test more then 20 times, on each telephone with the same result.

I have just sent a mail till Sony support.

At least I have found a workaround, and hopefully I can help someone that have the same problem

🙂

/Chrille

Well I guess I jinxed it, because I've noticed lately that the wifi drops are back. Status bar shows full connection, but apps just hang sometimes. I have to constantly hit refresh within the app for the wifi to kick in again and start working. Didn't have any issue with firmware 726, but now that I've updated to 28, the issue is back.
